I'm not the most knowledgable on this, but you should be able to test the low circit (both voltage and ohms) on the coil with a multimeter. I did this on my 82 cj and it saved me from replacing something I didn't need to.

I messed around with it some more...adjusted the choke and now it definitely runs smooth while cold, but as it warms up it starts to run rough and die. Yeah I want to try anything and everthing before tearing into the carb! I'll continue to mess with it you have any ideas send them my way...
