Some actual Tech in the Tech session

The kits he sells use a standard orbital valve and 2x8 cylinder for the front. The rear is a lever style 3 position valve with open center and another 2x8 cylinder. These are not the ultra sexy double ended cylinders like you see with the high dollar kits. These are the standard red colored...

    500 cadillac into tj

Do a search on pirate4x4.com I saw one thread where a guy put one in a CJ. You've got some challenges ahead, especially in the flywheel and header department.

Some actual Tech in the Tech session

Looking good. Humvee wheels work pretty good with dually fronts, but then you're stuck with 16.5's. One thing to research though is the rear steer 60. I have seen some pretty tricked out rear steer 60's with chromo shafts, CTM's, electronic joystick valves with auto return to center etc...and...

    warn 8000 winch help

Somebody chime in here, but aren't the solenoids the same as a Ford Ranger starter solenoid. Seems like I replaced one on my 9000 with a Ranger solenoid.

    Transmission

T150 can handle the power. You should be able to pick one up dirt cheap because no one wants them due to their terrible nature offroad. T150's are fine for the street though. Look into a T18 or T176. T176 can be used with the Dana 300 which is a popular replacement for the Dana20.

Wiring up the winch I've got comin'

A lot of folks will tell you to use the thicker top posts for the winch due to the amount of current a winch will draw. Use the side posts for your starter, etc.. However, I run the winch on the side posts and haven't had any trouble. This is with an optima yellow top though...not sure if they...

    Narrow trac vs Wide trac

The 8" width makes the tire stand up taller vs. the 10" width. At least it appears that way to me.

    500 cadillac into tj

Easy on the 5.3's. They have their merits.

    Narrow trac vs Wide trac

Borrow a 15x8 wheel and mount one of your tires (or spare) to see if it gets you the look you want. A friend of mine has 36TSL's on the factory CJ steel wheels and it looks good.

    500 cadillac into tj

Just googled real quick and saw one blog saying the caddy is 400hp and 500 ft lbs in stock form with 10:1 compression. Sounds like an interesting project and since you are not rock crawling the Jeep, then go for it. Random thoughts: 1. Do a compression test on the engine before you get too deep...

    Narrow trac vs Wide trac

It will not work and your Jeep looks terrible with that wide stance. I will do you a favor and take it off your hands.

    500 cadillac into tj

IF you are willing to drop $3500 on it, then why not go with a Gen III Vortec or LS1. Any one of those will fit, have huge aftermarket support, are fuel injected and actually still get decent mpg. Try a 6.0 litre for torque. If that doesn't have enough torque and throttle response then you...

    500 cadillac into tj

Oh yeah...IMO a turbo on a 4.0 liter sounds way cooler than a big block.

    500 cadillac into tj

It's an interesting project and I say do it, just to see if you can, but.... Would I do that if I already had a turbo 4.0? Heck no. Here's why: 1. your D44 and Ford 9 probably have all they can stand with your turbo 4.0 2. I believe BOP/Caddy engines are wider than a chevy (wider degree of...

    up-coming swaps

You already have the best transmission and t-case combination of all those listed. Use the TBI350 (for fuel injection reasons) and the Ford rear 60. Sell the rest of your parts and buy a Chevy front 44 or 60 with 4.10's and a bellhousing adapter for the Chevy motor to T-18. You will be looking...

    Fenderwell headers

Whatever you do, don't exhaust right below or behind the door. Go out the back. I had fenderwell headers on my CJ that exhausted right below the door. They were bad to stir up dust and I always came home from the trail smelling like exhaust with a raging headache. It had the headers on it...

    Putting Tires On

I would paint them trash can. I mean seriously, those are nice tires and all, but the Ford rims are going to make it look like you were too cheap to buy the right tires and wheels for your Jeep.

    cam problem, I think

Step 1. Go purchase a Chilton or Haynes repair manual. Step 2. Look up what a Cam is Step 3. When you find out the cam is not the problem, flip to the Water Pump section and change your water pump.

    Think'in of a 2.4L 5.3 GM swap in 04 TJ

Don't know about a TJ, but they work pretty good in a CJ. Dollar to horsepower wise, you get more for less with the 5.3. BTW, you can get 325hp out of the 5.3 engine with a simple computer flash. You will have to get it flashed anyway to remove the vehicle anti theft system and remove the...
