Amc 20 rear axle tube rusting

Check your local craigslist, you should be able to get a model 20 anywhere from 150.00 to 300.00. Most keepers upgrade from the 20 so finding one shouldn't be too hard. Standard gear ratio for 79 is 3.54. I would think retubing or sleeving would be that much or close.

    Eaton Trutrac on CJ5

I have no personal experience with eaton, but I had a locker (lock rite) in the rear of a cj7. It did take some getting used to on the street. The way the auto lockers work is when you have your foot in the gas pedal, the locker is active and working. when you let off the gas pedal the locker...

    Retired cripple builds a '79 CJ5

well, you probably already know this. but.. a cj7 will give you more room, and the wheel base will allow for a better ride given the same upgrades between a "5" and "7". That being said, you cant do better than a coil suspension.

    Eaton Trutrac on CJ5

The trutrac is a limited slip. If you are going to spend the money, get a locker! Many cj,s came factory with limited slips, the advertiseing is miss leading as it sends power to the wheel that is spinning (already stuck), NOT the one with traction.. I personally think it would be a waste of...

    Rear wheel bearing exploded!

havent really run into this problem before, but I would think as long as the bearing don't spin inside the housing it would be ok. hard to tell the extent of damage by the pictures though..

jeep yj 1994 engine replament adapter

it is for a small block ford to a t90 three speed transmission.. the t90 was used from 45-71 in willys and cjs. I think early international scouts used it as well. not the strongest trans but did come behind v6,s in the late 60,s and early 70,s. probably similar in strength to the 76-86 t150...

    Toe seems off

Glad someone with more knowledge on this than I is helping you. JNinPA, I have a question for you: On cjs the pitman arm faces to the rear of the jeep, in his photos it appears his is facing to the front. are the tjs and jks set up facing the front?? just curious so I don't tell someone in the...

    Toe seems off

The tie rod going from tire to tire set that setting. I had that issue with mine,,, what "I" did was: get the tires straight, then disconnect the tie rod at the tire that was off center and screw that rod end in or out to straighten it. without a machine you will not know if it is within specs...

    1970 CJ5 Dauntless V6 Starter Motor Upgrade??

I don't see why they told you that, the teeth on the chevy 153 or 168 starter wouldn't engage correct to the 160 flywheel teeth. trying to make money I assume. You could use the chevy starter but would have to change flywheels. Just for future reference, even though the 225 and 231 share the...

    Pitman arm

I don't know how else to explain how to do it, and of course im not standing in front of the jeep to see it. it can be confusing. I wish I could help you more, I just don't know what else I could say. im not saying what I explained was crystal clear, so please don't be offended. The pitman arm...

    1970 CJ5 Dauntless V6 Starter Motor Upgrade??

No you can not use a chevy starter on a 160 tooth buick flywheel. The 225 and 231 odd and even fire engines use the same 160 tooth flywheel. summit racing lists a powermaster xs torque starter for a 87 buick regal gnx 231 (grandnational), same tooth count and will work on your engine.

    Pitman arm

not sure I understand what you are saying about the cockeyed wheel.. are you saying if one wheel it pointing straight the other is cocked in or out rather than straight also? if so, that sounds like the tie rods not adjusted correctly (alignment) on the side that's cocked. get the pitman arm on...

    Pitman arm

yes, pitman arm facing straight back towards rear of jeep, with wheels straight before installing the arm.

    Pitman arm

what year? I don't know about the newer jeeps (97 and up). on earlier models yes it is. If you look at the splined portion of the arm you should see a couple of flat sections that have no spline, those flat spots line up with flat spots on the sector shaft of the box. you can line them up wrong...

    Motor timing 180* out?

yep I have a couple big boxes full of old issues of JP. love it

    steering wheel 90 degrees off.

do not hammer or bang on the arm or box to remove the pitman arm. you will damage the seal in there and it will start to leak, trust me on that.. use a puller, maybe very light taps. I ruined two boxes in the past by not taking that advise.

    steering wheel 90 degrees off.

did they take off your pitman arm when they did the high steer? If so, it sounds like they didn't center the wheel before reinstalling it. do you have same amount of turns of the steering wheel from lock left to lock right. No amount of alignment will fix that, so save your money there. If they...
