    New ring and pinion

Mix your paint with a little (very little) gear oil, will make reading the contact pattern easier. If too thick, the marking compound will force the paint and give an off reading.

    Advice

Backfires through the throttle body? are you getting a check engine light? 96 XJ is ODBI or ODBII, don't recall. I would start with something simple like looking for vacuum leaks around the manifold. 96 I believe has two plastic vacuum fittings, one on the front and one on the rear top of the...

    YJ t case swap

I recommend IDing the problem first. a sound could be anything from a slacked out chain to a worn shifter fork. many parts from the dodge 231 will swap over to your jeep case. I believe all 21 spline 231 t cases, regardless of the make and model has the same input shaft length. 23 spline could...

The best winch for my Jeep?

For every pulley added increases the line pull by fifty percent, two pulleys would net doubling. Am i wrong? I probably am, 6th grade physics was over thirty years ago.

The best winch for my Jeep?

Running cable from the winch to a winch point, through a snatch block and back to the vehicle does not double a winches pull strength. what i think he is referring to requires multiple snatch blocks to work successfully. Truth be told, get the largest winch you want. I know ive maxed out 10k...

    All my newb questions

Put the winch on and forget about it. I would highly recommend keeping it covered when ever not in use. maintenance is limited to maybe servicing the motor or replacing a selonoid.

    drops out of 4x4

CAD diaphragm on the pass side of the front axle. if it is intermittent, then it is probably a vacuum leak, if it is just not functioning, then it is junk. Google search posi lock or CAD MODS and you will see a plethora of options, some cheap, some not. Personally if it was me, I would swap...

    page layout

My wife's computer is showing as normal, must be something on my PC... and yes, the NSA is constantly monitoring my PC, if offroad websites and internet porn make me a threat, then so be it.

    page layout

Anyone elses page layout all screwy? Mine is and it makes it extremely difficult to navigate? I am going to check on a different computer tonight to see if it is a network thing on my end.

    In need of Traction bar

The length from heim center to heim center as you see if is about 30" and at the axle, there is about 7" of separation. These numbers are not hard since there is some adjustability in the heims. That is the bracket that I had for it, it was a radius arm coil bracket from ballistic fab that I...

    Shifter knob

Not on TJ's. Also if you loose that cap, a beer bottle cap also fits in there snuggly for a "custom" look.

    question?

As long as they are properly gapped, I'll run any plug. I find that about 60% of the time, a pregapped plug is not gapped properly. Also stock wires are fine.

    In need of Traction bar

The amount of lift is arbitrary. If you are staying spring under, you should not need a trac bar. If you still have spring wrap while SUA, you have some junk or broken springs. If you wanted, you could put a trac bar like this onto a jeep that is bone stock. It is not needed, but you could...

    In need of Traction bar

You know what, I think I also still have the shackle that I bought to go along with this. Brand spanking new. I'll grab photos of everything tonight.

    In need of Traction bar

To give you an idea, this is what the trac bar looks like (this is not the actual one)

    In need of Traction bar

I don't see why it wouldn't work, it is just a trac bar. I'll snag a picture tonight and get all the critical measurements. I think I also have a set of axle mounts that you can weld on. (<-I think) I will also come up with a price, I think they are 3/4" heims, but they might be 7/8's. There...

Jeep YJ = No trac bars. You do not need them.

    In need of Traction bar

Are you SOA? I have a trac bar that I built long time ago that was on the rear of a comanche project that I ended up linking. I am 99% sure I still have it in the shop. Made from DOM (I think 1.5") with Ruff Stuff threaded inserts and I know it has 3 brand new Ruff Stuff heims with...

    Taillight issues 1990 wrangler

I would check for continuity with a ground on teh tail light wiring. Sounds like there is contact somewhere. IIRC, the tail lights should be on teh same curcuit as the park lights and come directly fro mthe switch to the bulb. Was the fuse blowing with the switch off?

plugs and gap for fuel injection

I am not super familiar with the Howell system, but if it has a MAF and o2, it should be able to rear a rich condition and accomidate by leaning out fuel. How old is your fuel tank? IIRC for the howell system to work, you need to plumb a return line to the tank. I am thinking that return might...
