Door hinge pin for 83 CJ

Does anyone out there have a source for a door hinge pin for my 83 CJ. I have full metal doors and one of the pins that holds the door hinge together seems to have disappeared. I checked the local (and not so local) sources including wrecking yards with no success. I can't seem to find a...

    "Loping" engine

Thanks for the tip about the choke. I suspected as much, but wanted to get an expert's opinion before messing with it. Dave

    "Loping" engine

I have an 83 CJ-7 with a straight 6 (258ci) that lopes when I first start it in the morning. The RPMs go from 450 up to about 900 when it is cold and then eventually (after a few minutes idling like that) it levels out to about 450. If I try and rev the engine, at times it will "cough" back...

Pardon my intrusion, but what question did you ask? Please refresh my memory. Dave :???: I agree with the last post, nice Jeep.

need to put new key tumbler in

Fish, I'm glad you solved the problem with the missing key. Finding one is always the easier (and cheaper) route. As for the wheel puller, I discovered through another's earlier post that you don't really need it to remove the steering wheel. Once the nut is off the shaft, just yank hard a...

need to put new key tumbler in

Fish, Let me know if you have problems finding the slot for the cylinder release. I may have some old pictures I took of the column with the turn signal removed and showing the slot. If I remember correctly, it is at about the 2 or 2:30 spot on the column, so look thereabouts first. Dave

need to put new key tumbler in

Fish, Changing the entire lock mechanism is pretty easy. All you have to do is remove the steering wheel and turn signal assembly, insert a small flat blade screwdriver down into the slot near the 2:00 position (look for the hole) and press down on the part on the side of the lock tumbler...

    Brake Pedal Adjustment

I need to adjust the brake pedal height on my 83 CJ7. Is there a way to do that without removing the pedal and modifying it? On my old 48 flat fender, there was an adjusting bolt behind the pedal that allowed one to change the height of the pedal, but I don't see one on this critter. Any...

    Clunk on turning

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on my clunking sound. I finally figured out what it is. The bracket on the front end of the passenger front leaf spring is bent enough so it allows the spring to move back and forth slightly within the bracket as to make the noise when I turn a corner or...

    Clunk on turning

Weylyn, Well, I jacked up the front by the bumper and found no play in the front end at all. I greased everything that had a zerk, but didn't actually dismantle anything to add grease that way. It appears that the sway bars have a rubber boot top and bottom of the connection, but I don't see...

Thanks Weylyn for the grease tip and how to check out the shackles. I am going to check that out this afternoon. Dave

    Clunk on turning

I am going to check on those shackle bushings. It seems to be the consensus of what may be the problem. I am kinda' surprised because this critter doesn't seem to weigh that much, at least not like a big truck. Are the bushings a weak spot on this model, or do they just wear like most parts...

    Clunk on turning

Collin, I didn't think of the front u-joints being the problem as it sounds like the noise if coming from the rear or behind the front seats at least. It is hard to determine where it is actually coming from since the noise is random and can't be duplicated on command. Again, thanks for...

    Clunk on turning

Thanks guys who replied. I will check out all those things when (and if) this rain ever stops here in Northern California. It is so wet here I may have to fit my CJ with a snorkel... ;) Dave

I never thought of the tin foil idea. I am going to try that out tomorrow when I hear the clunk from my CJ... Dave

    Clunk on turning

My 86 CJ7 makes a "clunking" noise sometimes when I turn it, especially when pulling out of a parking space or curb where I have to climb a slight incline. I have checked the undercarriage and can't find anything that appears capable of making the noise. I checked the motor mounts thinking...

    New and full of questions

Rufrider.... I agree with you. I'm not very smart (I teach high school English), so I don't know much. What I do know is that all who have helped me out with my "little" Jeep problems have been the best friends I wish I knew. But again, I don't know much, so I am gonna' go outside and admire...

    Wind Wing Pivot broken

I have an 86 CJ7 that I bought last summer. I have discovered that the driver's wind wing is broken at the top pivot and flops out when I open it. It appears that the pivot stud is welded or screwed into the inside of the door frame, but I am not sure. Does anyone know if the pivot stud can...
