You could use a terrycloth towel or washcloth. Something with a bit of thickness. Using a clothes iron if you do not have a heat gun. Then iron the towel over the glue. Just be sure the towel is thick enough and iron not so hot to ruin the paint. The softening glue will stick to the towel...
