    '83 CJ7 Ignition Problem

OK guys...I have an ignition problem in my '83 CJ7 with 4.2. It will just die while driving some times. Other times it will not start. There is no pattern that I can figure out. Some times if I turn the ignition off and then start it, it will start right up. Other times I will have to try...

    Got Jeep baptised today

Well the weather man this morning said that it would start raining late tonight or early on Thursday morning, so I left with no top or doors......they were wrong. It started raining at lunch. Luckily I can park in a parking garage across the street if I need to. On the way home it was...

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jeep(R) Wrangler, the heart and soul of the Jeep brand, dominates the small sport utility segment. Jeep, the "Go Anywhere, Do Anything" brand, plans to conquer even more territory with the introduction of its all-new 2005 Jeep Wrangler...

    What Size Winch????

There have been a couple of threads in the last week concerning winches. What does everyone think is a good size for a winch for a Jeep (CJ, YJ, or TJ)? I don't want to end up with a winch that is too small, but I don't want to spend more money than needed or have any extra weight on the front...

    TJ 4.0 Gas mileage

I plan on buying a Rubicon when my wife graduates from nursing school in ten months. I know the window sticker states that they get 16mpg city and 19mpg hwy. Does anyone with a 4.0 TJ know what gas mileage they are getting from their Jeep?

    Sealing up distributor...do I need a vent?

I like to make mods on my Jeep based on previous trips. It appears that during water crossings my distributor always gets wet and kills my power. I do not think that I am even submerging the distributor. What I wanted to do is put some silicone around the base of the distributor cap to seal...

    Three Core Radiator is in!

I got my 3 core radiator in this weekend. I had some clearance problems with the fan clutch. I swapped out with a mid 90s Chevy small block fan clutch and that gained me about 1/4". Now once summer gets here I'll be able to run the AC and drive over 60 mph.

    Shackle movement?

I noticed something and am not sure if it is normal. If I am stopped and turn the wheels from one side to the other, the shackles move from left to right some. Is this normal?

    New Axles!

I installed my new Superior one piece axles last night. The install went smooth. It would have been difficult if I had done it in my garage. My brother-in-law works at a drive line shop (driveshafts, CVs, and rear ends) and has all the cool tools/toys. We had to machine a bearing spacer down...

    Rear Axles Popping/Clanking

I have this popping/clanking coming from the left rear axle. It does it when I have been going forward and put it in reverse and start backing up. It also does it when I let off the gas and use the engine to declerate. It started a few months ago. About a month ago I pulled the wheel and...

From Carter BBD to Holley 350 cfm

I did the carb swap from the stock Carter BBD to a Holley 350 cfm two barrell. I had rebuilt the Carter, but was still not happy with it. It would load up and stumble on climbs. The idle was also bad (some days it would die at idle). It had a surge below 1100rpm and another surge around...

Oil leaking out breather in Valve Cover

I have a question about my 83 CJ. Whoever had it before me had removed a lot of the vacuum lines, air cleaner, etc. My jeep has a PCV system in the back of the valve cover and one of those K&N breathers in the front. Over time oil will get soaked up into the breather and it will leak out...

    Battery or Alternator

I'm having some electrical problems and cannot decide if the battery or alternator need to be replaced. I was out of town this weekend and when I tried to start my Jeep Sunday it would not start. The interior lights would not even glow. It is possible that I left the interior lights on, but I...

    Electric or Flex fan

I posted another thread about having little clearance between the fan clutch and the radiator. If I cannot get adequate clearance I will go to a flex fan or electric fan. What are the pros and cons? How expensive is an electric fan? What is involved in installing one? I'm just trying to...

Minimum clearance between radiator and fan cluth

What would you say is the minimum clearance between the radiator and the fan clutch? I bought a new 3 core radiator and it appears that it is going to be very close to the fan clutch. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to move it back?

Working on the Jeep this weekend

I'll be turning wrenches tomorrow night and Saturday. In another thread I talked about buying a new Holley 350cfm carb. Today I bought a new radiator, uppper and lower hoses, and a thermostat. I have a problem with my jeep running hot with the AC above 65 mph and while driving in stop and go...

    Heater Hose Valve?

My uncle has a 1982 CJ7 and just completed a 4.3 TBI & 700R4 conversion. It's pretty sweet. He said that on his 4.2 he had some type of valve that kept the coolant from running through the heater core until the motor was up to temp. I looked at my 83 CJ7 and I have nothing like that. All my...

A new Holley is on the way!

I have finally had all I can take from the Carter BBD carb. I am tired of adjusting it and/or cleaning parts every week to keep it running. It has to go! I know that a Webber conversion is the popular thing to do, but I know nothing about Webber carbs. I used to drag race and a Holley is...

To down shift...or not to down shift?

Do you guys down shift when decelerating. I have always let the engine get down to around 1000 rmp in 4th then a little clucth and send it to third and then let third get down to around 1000 rmp. On another thread someone posted that they did not like down shifting because it is hard on the...
