You know you drive a Jeep when....

When you hear someone call their 4x4 Toyota a "Jeep"...and you have to bite your tongue to keep from explaining the differences...again.

Now Robert...that's downright un-neighborly...even for a New Mexican! Larry

    Jeep Nicknames

My '87 Comanche MJ Pickup is just "The Old Indian"... The '95 YJ doesn't have a nickname yet, but I'm leaning toward "High Maintenance" after the most recent repairs. Larry

Mechanic says I need a new engine...

If the water pump quit working...didn't you have any warning light or gauge indicating that the engine was overheating? Might also want to get a second (non-dealership) opinion. Larry

have you guys seen this crap?!?

As long as Chrysler/Fiat/Jeep leaves the Wrangler to carry on the original "Jeep" banner they can make whatever they want. The problem is that the Jeep engineers are already making the Wrangler so plush and upscale that the uniqueness of the "Universal" Jeep is quickly getting lost. I think...

    newer jeeps

Some folks obviously like the new plush, luxurious, bling-bling Jeeps being produced these days...or they wouldn't be selling many of them. However, there is still a huge market of folks (like me) who enjoy the bare-bones mechanical feel of the older Jeeps...without all of the hassle of...

    New to this forum

Unfortunately, we meet a lot of other Jeep folks at the gas pumps. What's that all about?..(as if I didn't know)...ha! Glad to have another YJ guy on board. Welcome! Larry

Your Favorite All Time Jeep Photos

My first Jeep was a slightly modified 1953 M38A1 which a friend talked me into buying. I knew very little about Jeeps at the time and ended up selling it for next to nothing. It ran great with the added Dauntless 225 Buick V6 engine..and would almost climb a tree in low range/1st gear. It...

VEX, Me, Home in Yucatan-Google Earth

Was that you in the bikini? No wait...wrong photo! Just kidding! You seem to lead an exciting and adventurous life, Robert. I'm sure you could write a book about your travels...and then some...if you haven't already done so...ha! And "VEX" is pretty amazing as well. Larry

    From the Southwest Desert Commons

Nice CJ7 Robert. Could you give a run-down of some of the gear and set-up on your Jeep? That winch (outrigger/snatch block?) setup is interesting...as is the rear lighting. If you don't mind saying...how do you use your Jeep? Work? Exploring? Fun? All of the above? Thanks Larry

    CB radios in Jeeps

Handle used to be "White Pepper" when I had a white pickup with black trim. Haven't decided on a new handle lately since I put the cheapest Midland radio I could find ($26) from Amazon.com in my red and black YJ. "Red Pepper" just doesn't sound right....or does it? Larry

    Snow driving.

Just remember that 4 wheel drive alone will not help you stop any better on slick road surfaces...and if you don't know what you're doing in snow and ice you can still get stuck...even in a 4x4. I like to find a deserted parking lot when it snows and just run in 4 wheel drive doing as many hard...

    to many problems part two

I agree with the Bounty Hunter. There are a lot of good quality XJs out there you can get for a song (actually a few $$$). It sounds like the previous owner(s) of your current XJ beat the fire out of it and you got stuck with the fix up. That's not all bad if you have this Jeep as a...

Welcome! Wow...I knew that some '93 Grand Cherokees came with the standard/stick 5 spd. transmission...but this is the first time I've heard of anybody actually owning one. I may be wrong but they seem to be quite rare. Anyway, again welcome to Jeepz. Larry
