i've had nothing but great times with my jeeps in the snow (2 cherokees) My favorite is launching in the snow - you can really get on it good in the snow and it won't spin out - just grabs and goes!

sounds promising, I'd suggest taking it for a longer test ride (esp on the highway) to make sure it doesn't do anything horrible... and check it over really well for rust...

i concur - that would be my guess. You should have this "closed system" unless someone upgraded it...

yeah, my guess would be the CAT as well... a band-aid fix is just to take a couple long screws and screw directly thru the cat. IF thats ur problem, that is. does the noise go away when you are accelerating? if so, i'd def. say its the cat. if it does get worse as engine speeds rise, i'd say...

check over the obvious as well... corroded/loose ground wires, bad connection at the main power distribution thingy, etc...

thick black smoke means that you're running rich... which could possibly be fouling plugs or clogging your cat.

technically, you'll need a new speedo gear which is located in the transfer case. your speed won't be off by much, however, and often times people going to 31's don't bother to change it.
