    89 4.2 power improvements

1047913 Awesome - someone that I can relate to - obviously you completed the by-pass already. Do you still have your pulse air system attached? My pipe leading to the cat has a hole in it as well as a separated check valve - therefore I know that part is not working and it is taking up...

    89 4.2 power improvements

1048038 Thanks again, that was sort of what I thought. Currently, I am running a bit lean (vacuum or air leak) so I may go through all the V lines and remove/re-route the ones for the pulse air. I also live in an emissions-free state, so I am looking forward the weber set-up. Thanks for...

    4.2 Idle Screws

1048417 Thanks for the info. I'm getting ready to do the Nutter by-pass, and part of it is to screw in the idle jets so the needles are connected to the stepper motor (for a full rich condition). Have you performed that upgrade - any results? I also can't coinceive of what type of...

    4.2 Idle Screws

1048431 I'm here in FL, so emissions aren't a concern - to date. I've also completed the ignition upgrade using a more powerful coil and a larger dist cap and rotor (from a ford 300cuin straight six. Right now idle is smoother with this mod and it wasn't to difficult. I am new to this...

    4.2 Idle Screws

1048456 I'll check the voltage of the coil once I complete the by-pass. I have one project to complete prior to actually getting into the wire cutting. I also have to find the ignition module to be able to splice the infamous purple wire. Basically, I have a bit more investigating to do before...

    4.2 Idle Screws

1048457 I changed my plugs when I upgraded the ignition - they indicated a lean condition. I've read that this could be attributed to vacuum and/or air leak in the system. What other ways can you change a lean system? Does it have anything to do with timing? I'm a bit out of my league here...

    4.2 Idle Screws

1048467 So screwing them out will richen the burn? Wow, I didn't realize all of the intergral working of the 4.2 prior to purchase. I've had 2 wranglers prior to this, a 93 4.0 and an 89 2.5 so all this carb stuff coupled with the amount of vacuum lines starts a big learning curve for me...

    JEEP HELP

1054298 :-) I also have the 89 with the 4.2. In addition to all the previous good replys, I HIGHLY recommend the ignition upgrade located on the site in the "How To" Section. Basically it adds a more powerful coil, larger distributed cap and regapped plugs. I completed the upgrade in an hour...

scrambler making a come back in mid 2004...........

1054588 The BRUTE is bad a$$. :-) I would live to get one but the funds won't allow it. Heck, I can't find enough spare coin for a real lift and some meats, gears, lockers, etc.. I can hardly get enough to conduct the required repairs/upgrades let alone get something from my "dream sheet". Ah...

Rocker Guards - In search of. . .

1054644 :-D Awesome idea. I'll have to check out some local metal shops and see if the can cut to specs. I already have stock holes in my rocker side from the extra plastic side guard and step. I am looking forward to removing that and the painted wheel well flares to put some black TJ ones...

Rocker Guards - In search of. . .

1054781 Green, They do look sweet, but at $370 I could get a set of 5 American Eagle 058's instead. I'm trying to spread limited resources to get the best band for my buck. I do appreciate the help! :-D Primarily I want to get the rocker guards (cheap) then work on the other stuff. 8-) [addsig]

    Sway Bar???

1056307 :-D I also have an 89 Sahara. Of the 2 options, mine was the larger one - I had to measure it for new poly sway bar bushings from Quadratec. Hope that this helps![addsig]

    Sway Bar???

1056347  Honestly - no real difference. However, when I was replacing them they did look worn especially the end link bushings. I was unable to remove the top bushings ( the ones connected to the sway bar) with any tools that I had at home. So I just replaced the bottom link bushings...

    $#@^%$ rotors!

1049174 I also had a 99 Grand that really went through the rotors. I also have a friend with a 2000 Grand having the same symptoms. He went to the dealer and had his replace under warranty. Of course that would be good for you if it was still under an extended warranty. Good Luck.[addsig]
