    timing belts and engine wear

I bought a 2011 Crown Vic with 300k miles 12 mos ago and I'm wondering how to approach servicing the timing belt. I know very little of it's past maintenance records other than what I've done with it this past year. Basically I'm wondering if I should go ahead and attempt to replace it now...

    300k mile old diff fluid

Thanks for the good info yall. A few follow up questions... I trust ya JPN but why no cleaner? I've had others advise to spray it all out, I really don't know one way or the other. Also got advice that I might have a limited slip diff but the clutches are worn out. I suppose I could write...

    300k mile old diff fluid

I have a '11 Crown Vic with 300k miles on it and my rear diff fluid looks like this... Been watching some utube vids on how to change this fluid out but after a visit to the local Advance store I've got some questions. Up til now, forums on the net have led me to believe that all former...

    Problem w/ intermittent defrost a/c

Thanks for the video, good stuff. After I took the gauges off I noticed one of the schrader valves was hissing, and now the system is down to 0 psi. So I believe a faulty valve has been the culprit all along. Now that the system is down I'm going to replace both valves, but my regular...

    Problem w/ intermittent defrost a/c

Hooked the gauges up and it seems like I've got a low refrigerant condition. Before turning the engine on both gauges read about 75. After starting the engine and setting the AC on max you could really tell the compressor was cycling fast. The needles cycled every 5-6 seconds...one going up...

    Problem w/ intermittent defrost a/c

When it's raining the fogging can happen about anytime. The a/c tends to be cooler when the vehicle is moving and gets less cool when it's sitting idling. As the engine was overheating last summer I replaced the whole fan unit with new and that solved the problem. So I'd imagine we can rule...

    Problem w/ intermittent defrost a/c

Thanks so much JPN and sorry it's been so long since I dropped this. Life got a little complicated for a while there. I know I'm a bit out of place here but these problems are going on with my '11 Crown Vic. I noticed you mentioned Jeep in your post so thought I'd say that again. Here's...

    Problem w/ intermittent defrost a/c

Have a '11 Crown Vic with 290k miles and I've been having a problem with the windows fogging up all the way around. The defrost seems to be working about half the time. On humid rainy days it'll work for say a half hour keeping the windows clear, then the windows will fog hard for 10-15...

Need to rethread a plug hole from a blown plug

Bought an '11 Vic with the 4.6L back in June and a few months back I tried to change out the plugs. All came out ok except for cyl 4 which only cranked out 1/4 turn. Had a shop take it out and they said they had to redo the threads. I've seen videos where you can remove a stuck plug by...

    knock knock

My knock sounds exactly like whats in the video where the guy is fixing his loose flexplate bolt. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/ho...ocking-125547/ Is there any danger in running it like this for a few weeks? I've got a more pressing problem with my other car I'm trying to take care of...

    knock knock

96 XJ here, 180k 4.0. Recently I've had a repetitive knock sound show up. You don't hear it on a cold start but after it warms up there's a distinctive lower pitched knock with a frequency of about 10 times a second, at idle. Seems to be coming from the bottom of the car/engine as you can hear...

cyl 7 misfire and coolant in the plug well

Found the leak at the front driver side corner of the intake manifold. Really wish it wasn't so cold out now. Any last advice on an inexpensive source for an OEM intake mainfold? Considering how much this car is driven I better stay away from after market.

cyl 7 misfire and coolant in the plug well

Thanks for the advice JPN. I've also been advised that this may be a leaky intake manifold or gasket. Is there a test I can perform that confirms it's my intake manifold that's leaking before I start taking parts off?

cyl 7 misfire and coolant in the plug well

My '11 Crown vic with 270k miles suddenly started running rough mostly at the lower end of the gears. By the time you got into o/d the whole car shook. Scan tool gives me P0307 cyl 7 misfire, and P0316 misfire upon startup. So I pull the coil on 7 to find a pool of burnt smelling coolant...

    Door part siezing up

Thanks JP I'll check my wiring for anything loose. Elsewhere I've been advised to 'lubricate the latches with a penetrating grease, one that sprays in as an oil and then sets up as a grease.' Any advice on what kind of spray lube would work? Never heard of a kind that sprays in but sets up...

    Door part siezing up

96 XJ here and my front doors have been tough to lock for a while now. It began about 10 years ago when something in the locking action became stiff and it took 2 pushes on the electric lock switch to get it locked or unlocked. It got worse over the years where it eventually took up to 5-6...

    Towing

How can i tell if my 96 Xj has a tow package? If it doesn't, apparently it's towing capacity is about 2000. What would happen if I tried to tow a 3400 lb trailer with it's own 'pulse brakes?'

    GEN light on w/ hesitation

Well, turned out to be the alternator. Had a hard time convincing myself that was it b/c the as my records showed it was only 2 yrs ago I put a new one on. The one that went bad 2 yrs ago was the original..lasted 20 years. At least the new ones in now and it's done. Lifetime warranty on...

    GEN light on w/ hesitation

'96 XJ here and here lately I've had just a few instances where the truck hesitated to go just as I gave it some gas. Only been seeing this from dead stop or slight roll. Hesitates for a second or two then it gets going like normal. Did it again this morning and although I haven't been...

How to suit up to pressure wash a dang horse stall?

Yeah I agree. Approach is key and good psi is gonna help. Thanks for that link. Thosee suits are exactly what I'm looking for although I hope they can be found cheaper. Their helmet with non-mistable polycarb face shield for 50$ looks worth it though.
