The Ole 96ers getting cranky (start issue)

Hey JPNinPA, sorry I missed coming back here. I'm sure now I was getting vapor lock like you mentioned. It's happened before, but only on rare occasions. The situation's always been the same...engine restart while at maximum operating temperature. All these years and I never knew this was a...

    So the XJx overheating...

The old 96ers been overheating for a minute now and I just figured out why...an intermittent aux fan. I've been hearing it start and whir when it should (engine temp wise), so I had been discounting it as the source of the overheating up til this past week when I saw it wasn't running as it...

The Ole 96ers getting cranky (start issue)

Thanks I'll keep this little procedure in my back pocket. I think the issue turned out to be in the same vane. Someone in another forum said my symptoms matched a known condition where the fuel pump isn't able to generate enough pressure when the engine is hot. Not sure why, although I...

The Ole 96ers getting cranky (start issue)

Twice now this week I've had a start issue that makes me wonder if it's a sign of something worse coming. The scenario has been the exact same both times. After 3-4 errand stops (which is unusual) (engine at peak running temp), I get to a stop and turn the engine off, and when trying to start...

Installing an inline heater hose cutoff valve

Yes this would be the right part. I was tunnel visioned only thinking about auto-related parts I'm aware of, but the brass valve should do the trick.

Installing an inline heater hose cutoff valve

I just did the heater hose valve deletion by installing '97 hoses, which don't allow for an inline switch into my '96 XJ, and now when I'm on the road wind blows through my now constantly hot heater core and into the cabin. How can I stop this? First idea is to find some kind of inline valve...

Aux radiator fan cutting off when A/C is on

Yes I had an issue with my radiator cap letting air suck in so I recently replaced the cap, filled and burped the coolant system. Reservoir full with coolant. I think everything there is ok. Did not know that I had two temp sensors though. Are they both the same part? The parts stores'...

Brake controller equipment recommendation and install advice on XJ

Yep. The formula is drive like you're pulling 5 times the weight and you should do ok, at least that's the way I've always done it. No need to take chances.

Brake controller equipment recommendation and install advice on XJ

I'm about to start pulling a little trailer weight (1,500 lb, trans cooler upgrade activated) with the 96 XJ, and I'd like to get set up to run trailer brakes. I know new kinds of brake controllers come out all the time, so I thought it'd be worth asking if there are any models/brands out there...

Aux radiator fan cutting off when A/C is on

Need to change that thing out right away then. It's too easy to get to not to eliminate the possibility. It's been a while since it was replaced anyway.

Aux radiator fan cutting off when A/C is on

That's the thing, the engine doesn't seem to be running in spec. A little overheating is usual when outside temps are in the mid 90s, but this year it's been happening in the mid 80s with engine temp going way higher than previous years. It's gotten a smidge cooler now, so I'm not so pressed...

Aux radiator fan cutting off when A/C is on

96 XJ here. Should my radiator e-fan (auxiliary) be cutting off when my A/C is on? I thought it ran continuously when the A/C was on, but my e-fan cuts off when the compressor shuts off. It only runs when the compressor is running. Is this normal, or should the aux fan be running...

Locating a replacement for this old decal w/ pic...

Not yet. Don't know why I haven't remembered to try it.

Locating a replacement for this old decal w/ pic...

Good to know about the library angle. I think there's a good library maker's space not to far from me. I did an exhaustive search and I'm fairly sure the only Graphics Express Stripes and Decals is the only place on planet Earth that offers what I was looking for. I've got the replacement...

    Better adhesive removing solvent?

It took absolutely forever but I eventually got some Goof Off and it came off after around 15 soakings. I don't think the Goo Gone I was originally using did anything at all. Right now I'm trying to remove the 4x4 symbols toward the rear on the sides and they're a booger as well. They're...

Bubbles in the coolant reservoir w/ overheating

'96 XJ 4.0 here, and I'm seeing something rather ominous. Although it's getting into the low 90s and slight overheating is expected this time of year, my dash temp gauge is getting up close to the red zone lately in the heat of the day (which it never has before), and I'm getting bubbles...

Locating a replacement for this old decal w/ pic...

I think that's the exact sticker but it's probably meant for a model with a gold trim package. I should have put a pic up of my good decals as they give a better idea of the color I need. I'll write the guy and see what he's got though. Thanks for the lead. Trying to match these decals on...

Locating a replacement for this old decal w/ pic...

Doing my usual spring spruce-up on the old 96er (XJ) and I'm finally getting to refreshing the decals all the way round. After 30 years it's time for some love. I've done some fair searching, including ebay, and I haven't had any luck finding this one. I'm seeing versions where the white part...

    Better adhesive removing solvent?

Thanks Terry that's encouraging to know. My next step is to soak with goo gone, cover with plastic and then cover with a wet towel, pouring hot water on the towel over some hours and see if that gets it.

    Better adhesive removing solvent?

I've been letting some original Goo Gone formula sit on this for a couple nights now and it doesn't seem to be touching it at all. Any suggestions for a better solvent/whatever to get this gunk off before I put the new decal on?
