    Checking out a used car...

Ideally before getting into a 10 yo used car you'd want to have a trusted garage check it out with all their fancy equipment. But say you've found what you're looking for in a city far far away and you aren't able to schedule for a professional mechanic to look at it when you get there...so...

XJ vent cable question and goof off

Thanks mark sr. I'm all ears on this one. The panel has been coming off for a while and is mis shapped / bent. I'm gonna either have to get it off and try to let it resettle back to straight again, or just get another one and paint it the right color. Any suggestion for an adhesive?

XJ vent cable question and goof off

Thanks yall that's gotta be it. I was messing with my battery this winter and somehow broke the vac line that goes to the front air bladder in the bumper. My cruise stopped working so I thought it was only associated with that. Any ideas about the goof off and removing that panel?

XJ vent cable question and goof off

Couple questions. All the air, both a/c and heat, in the old '96 XJ is vented up at the windshield now no matter what position the control levers are in. I assume its b/c of a cable or something that's come unattached. What's the most likely cause of such a disastrous occurrence and how...

What's up with Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil?

I've actually never paid attention to my tailpipe but sounds like I should. What would it mean if water keeps coming out even after its been driven for a while?

What's up with Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil?

What's this with condensation and short trips? Is there some type of water vapor build-up that occurs in oil during short trips?

What's up with Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil?

'96 XJ 4.0 here and I was wondering what's up with this Mobile 1 oil I've just found. Website says it's good for a full year or 20k miles, whichever comes first. I've been using Mobil 1 high mileage/extended life and change out every 5k miles with a Wix filter. Should I switch over to this stuff...

    Lubing slip joints

Sorry I've been a while getting back here, too many distractions. But thanks for all the great advice. How many u-joints are in my drive line? I know of only 4.. 2 at the ends of the driveshaft, and 1 in both the L and R front axles. Are the rear L and R axles built the same way as the...

    Lubing slip joints

'96 XJ AW4 here and for a while I've had this clunking sound just when I come to a stop and right when taking off again. From the feeling and sound if it I'm guessing it's coming from somewhere in the drive line somewhat toward the rear. The sound doesn't repeat itself, it's just one solid...

    Wheel referb

The wheels on the '96er have seen better days so I'm gonna spend some time and give them a face lift. I've got the darker colored version of the Jeep wheel called the Grizzly. They've been scuffed some on the edges and that's led to the clear coat peeling. I'm planning on generally...

Radiator stop leak for heater box leak?

Yes thanks I'll get up under the dash and see what's going on. I think you're referring to that vacuum activated 4 way valve in the engine compartment involving the heater hose. Had to replace the Oreilly's version twice in 10 years as it keeps cracking and losing coolant. Would a leak there...

Radiator stop leak for heater box leak?

Only time I get the smell is when I'm running the heater on the highest temp, and then it's more noticeable the higher the fan is turned. Never seen any fluid but I haven't been looking for any either. I'm guessing the leak is fairly smallish. Exactly where should I be looking if it was just...

Radiator stop leak for heater box leak?

Can't believe I forgot to mention...I'm in a '96 XJ Not sure about these hoses though. What hoses should I check? Some under the dash somewhere? I would guess the hoses in the engine bay wouldn't make a difference in the cabin, although I could be wrong.

Radiator stop leak for heater box leak?

I've been smelling hot coolant in the cabin when the heater runs on high temp, and I'm wondering if a radiator stop leak would work in the heater box. Anybody with a specific product recommendation?

    Need some bushings advice

Thanks for the advice, and sorry for taking so long to get back..too many irons in the fire. I'll be getting on anything related to steering first so thanks for the list. So far the list of parts I've been told to look at are... - upper and lower control arm bushings - leaf spring shackle...

Where to get this ignition coil?

Usually I'm working on the old '96-er but right now I'm trying to source an ignition coil for a 2002 volvo s80, and I'm not sure if I should trust the ones available at O'Reilly's. This engine has 6 of these things that sit right on top of the spark plugs. Have I heard the ones from NAPA...

    Body panel stuff...

Whadya do when the whole truck looks good other than something like this here... Could you just take it off and heat it up somehow, set on it's side and let gravity reshape it? Or would it be better to just peel it off and replace it with a straight one, either from a jy or new? Also...
