Now the question, why are there are two, I know the answer..............wait for it................Do you?:D

    Distributor protection

I started keeping a can of dry air (for cleaning out computers) in my tool box. Had a little moisture I missed one time, after a mud bath cleanup. The motor would start and run fine, first thing in the morning. Then would start missing and eventually crap out all together as it warmed up...

    Smoking Battery Terminal

I'd clean it up good, charge it, clean my poles and clamps until shiny. Then use it, if it holds a charge. Letting a battery sit all winter isn't good for them. The newer type pulse trickle chargers, can be left connected all winter. The electronics monitor the battery and regularly...

    XJ Tires

Likely the valve core is full of mud or other junk. The inside of the valve screws out, it's called the valve stem core. You can tighten it or screw it out, with a special little tool or sometimes you even find valve caps with a raised slotted end on them to tighten or remove the stem. Most...

    Answer me this

Your likely right about people living above there means. But think about two pyramids, one the distribution of wealth and the wealthiest being at the pinnacle (the top) and you (the majority) being nearer the wider base. And then the other way around, as an inverted (upside down) pyramid with...

    Distributor protection

I've used some of those hazardous materials rubber gloves. They are a little sturdier and longer than normal rubber gloves. You can put a fairly small hole in one and stretch it pretty far. I did it with a fresh set of cables so the spark plug boot removal was doable, but still a pain. A...

    Smoking Battery Terminal

If a battery passes too many amps through a short circuit, too quickly, it can heat up fast, the case can rupture and spew battery acid/electrolyte all over the place. The gases inside the battery can burn/explode when exposed to a flame or spark. Batteries are designed to vent excess gases...

    XJ Tires

Usually two reasons they crack, age or heat. I've had tires give good service with some surface cracing, but I'm sure not going to tell you they are OK, I'm not an expert. Likely $20-30 to find the leak and fix it. Maybe more if it is leaking around the bead, but doable. Sometimes all it...

    puking carberator

Doesn't take much grit to stick a float valve. Sometimes you disiodge some grit or other junk out of the lines during installation. One reason I always like to mount a filter close to the carb. Sometimes the grit comes with the carb and is already in the float bowl.

    Smoking Battery Terminal

Likely the terminal, but anyway have a good look to see if any rodents have been munching on your wiring.

What are the signs of a bad head gasket/cracked block?

You have to make sure the small plastic tube from the rear top of your valve cover is open and not plugged. And the opening the tube goes into on top of the valve cover is open all the way through the gasket. And the nipple the plastic tube is plugged into at the intake manifold is open all the...

    XJ Tires

Never tried the Uniroyals, I'd check if they are passenger car tires or LT tires. I usually wait until Sears or somebody has a sale, then check the production date code on the side of the tire. You can find out how on line. You sometimes find a free rotation or maybe a $3 warranty thrown in...

    XJ Tires

235's have a taller sidewall, the handling difference is fairly minor, but noticeable. there is a difference between "P" tires (passenger car) and "LT" (light truck) tires, in the same size. "LT" tend to have a higher weight rating and stiffer sidewalls and don't add to the wallow and sway of...

What are the signs of a bad head gasket/cracked block?

Doubtful you'd get enough airflow (hence condensation) through the crankcase to to be noticeable. But possible I guess if you have significant blow by. Condensation out the exhaust pipe can be fairly robust at startup, before it changes to steam and mixes in with the exhaust. There can be...

    96 Cherokee-starting,idling problems

No kidding? But if the IAC doesn't open during starting you may have no air either, so the same techniques used on an old carbureted vehicle may prove successful. Three things you need for it to start, air, fuel and spark. Too much or too little of any of these will cause grief. I've had an xj...

How many passengers do you take offroad

I've had nine, if you count the dogs. XJ's do have their pluses. Watched a guy roll his CJ-3 with five people on board, it was ugly.

    XJ Tires

I've run both Goodyear and Goodrich, 235/75R 15 A/T's. Both gave good service, handled well enough and were quiet compared to M/T's. IMO the 235 P tires are a little soft in the sidewall and add to the old XJ sway a little, LT's are likely a better choice, but may ride a little (slightly)...

    96 Cherokee-starting,idling problems

My 96 wouldn't start, finally went back to my old carburetor days and tried starting it with about 1/4 pedal (didn't want to flood it). It fired right up, but would stall every time I tried to get it to idle. On a hunch I sprayed some spray oil down the IAC (idle air controller opening) and it...
