RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Did that. Ran the whole can, let the Jeep sit for 20 minutes, drove it hard as heck for about 30 minutes. No smoke. Or it was so minor I didn't notice it.

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Ran the Seafoam through the intake. No smoke out the back, apparently things were already pretty clean. If it weren't for that misfire it's running like a top. Tried a timing light just to see if there were spark issues, everything looks fine. Forgot to do the stethoscope; if it isn't...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Okay, I've got a mechanic's stethoscope, so I'll try that tomorrow. Been raining all week 🙄 I take it you mean Seafoam the crank case? I ran some through the gas recently, but never tried in the oil. With Seafoam you just run it for a few hundred miles and then change the oil, right?

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Oh, I was just thinking out loud mostly. No one has smoked the intake other than me, and I've only viewed it from the top, I'll need to smoke it and crawl under just to check. That's part of my problem, most of the time the "miss" is light, especially after fixing the TB vacuum leak, and I...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

I'm not sure what kind of miss this is. I only know it's a miss because I asked a few people to listen to it. It just sounds like a fast "puh" sound, it's not regular at all. It could happen a few times a second, or go a several seconds without one. I don't mind changing the exhaust manifold...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

I do have a small exhaust leak right before the muffler. It's so far down the line that I wouldn't think it would cause any problems, but I wonder.

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

After cleaning the previous IAC it, for the most part, is working. There were a few times today where it didn't really dip much, just a little, at idle. Other than the miss it ran like a dream. Faster, more responsive, really digs in on the lower RPMs. Still that sound, though.

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

I'm with you. New IAC o ring, new TB gasket, and the TPS came with a new gasket a few months ago.

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Not just the stall, the fact that it idles at 1100 until the wheels totally stop, then it'll drop to 750 - 800 again. I had no idea what was causing that. Sometimes it'll start dropping to stall, but most of the time it just goes to the normal 750 - 800. But once it gets in one of those...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

That makes so much sense. Thank you, that's been driving me nuts for over a year. Is it normal for that to happen, though?

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

I switched the IAC back to the SMP one I had in before. Took off the air box hose and ran TB cleaner through the IAC port with the engine running. Put about 1/3 a can through it, stalled it a few times. Buttoned all back up now. It was idling better afterwards, though the miss is still...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Oh, sorry, it's a manual. That's where I'm confused, I can't think of any way the Jeep can tell it's in motion, but plenty of times when I roll up to a stop it'll idle high right until the second I stop moving, then drop back to normal. I can't figure out the sense in it. So am I leaving the...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

I'll add that I replaced the TPS recently. My last one went out and I had to drive back from Chicago in the wee hours with a very unhappy Jeep. The new one is a cheapie, so maybe I just need to order a Mopar one and call it a day.

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

So THAT'S what's going on. I've noticed a lot lately that even when it's running normal-ish whenever I would pull up to a stop sign/light it would hover at 1100 - 1200 RPMs, then as soon as the Jeep came to a total stop it would start to stall. Still don't understand how just slightly rolling...

    Random Misfire, No Codes

I still have my original OEM IAC, TPS, and MAP, they were all replaced recently. The TPS is the only I'm sure failed. I still have the original IAC and MAP, I might just throw those back on tomorrow. The CPS was recently replaced with Mopar. O2s are NGK. I've noticed a few times that it...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

So IAC or TPS could be the issue. The connection should be fairly solid, I had the TB out to replace the o rings a few nights ago and everything was recently buttoned back together. My last TPS went out a few months ago, but the replacement, while it has decent reviews, isn't Mopar, so I may...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Would a vacuum leak cause this? I'm pretty sure I'm chasing another vacuum leak. I found one in the throttle body where the throttle shaft rotates at the bearing, so I pulled the old o-rings, added new ones with fresh grease, and shifted the bearing a bit so it has fresh metal on the shaft...

RPM dips/engine stalls at idle (intermittent), 99 4.0

Hello! So, strange thing that happens intermittently. I'll be at idle, sometimes it's right after I start the Jeep, sometimes I'll have been driving for hours and come to a light. The RPMs will start to lower, around 600 or so, then they'll drop to the 300s, the engine will rev a bit and the...

    Random Misfire, No Codes

So, here's a thing: my throttle body is "hanging" at various points. When I've held my foot on the accelerator for more than a few seconds and let off it'll coast at the same RPM until I tap the pedal, then it'll drop. I'm putting a beefier return spring on, but does this sound like anything...

    Random Misfire, No Codes

Fuel pressure 48 at idle, momentary dip to 47 when I press the gas, held at 44 a few minutes after it was shut off. Tested vacuum again. Running it held at 20, but as soon as the engine was off it dropped to nothing. Using my hand vacuum pump I couldn't get it to hold any vacuum. Decided to...
