    Guess the noise

I know it sounds backwards. But the jets were too small.. It took me a min to wrap my brain around that

The wrong size idle jets make a change in vacuum. In my case my vacuum was really strong and the jets way to small causing a bump up in vacuum. This vacuum was strong enough to pull the fuel out of the bowl I'm assuming. Switched to 60mm from 45mm and bingo bango she runs smoother than my gfs...

    Guess the noise

So I started looking at the linkage and the throttle plates. Long story short... Very short. It was the idle jets. Now that I'm done feeling silly the jeep is running so smooth I have to check the gauges to make sure it's still running! BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP! I love this site!

I looked down into the throttle body and at idle you can see gas pouring in. I'm not the best mechanic in the world. But I'm pretty sure Mr.Gasket has Mr. Kicked-the-bucket. Is it possible that with the extra fuel dripping in and the new 50,000 volt ignition system is what's keeping the revs up?

    Guess the noise

I normally work on the jeep outside and I have almost no sense of smell. Today its in the garage and even with the garage door open my eyes were burning. I tried adjusting the idle screws. But even turning them down all the way the engine is staying in the higher revs.

I literally just changed the wires over to 8mm and then I added a DUI distributor (the kind that has the coil) and the engine does run a little cooler and smoother. It unfortunately is still surging and stalling.

I have a Mr. Gasket fpr set at 3.5 psi. Put it on about a month ago.

    Guess the noise

I started it this morning and it's not misfiring anywhere near as bad. But the engine keeps surging like it has a vacuum leak. my engine is pretty stripped down. I don't have any vacuum lines except the pcv hose and the vacuum advance. (jk)

I actually pulled the carb and manifolds off Yesterday to check just that. Cleaned em put it back and wahla! Same noise lol grrrr

    Guess the noise

I would just drive it till the doors fall off. But I can't keep it running under 1600 rpm. It stalls out. I don't know if this matters or if I already mentioned it. When I start it cold and the fast idle screw kicks in. The engine runs fine for about two mins. Then you can hear the stumble...

That ping you hear is multiple misfires in succession. It would have to be multiple valves or rods to do that and I don't have the sewing machine tick from a bad valve. I've been told the "bid" ignition modules go bad all the time. But I have no experience with them.

    Guess the noise

I already started a thread on this subject. But I picked a terrible subject title. Thought I might get more responses with a better title. This is the sound of a sick 77 258. It has new- wiring, carb, coil, alt, wires, cap, intake/exhaust gaskets, belts, battery, plugs, fuel filter, belts...

    Wtf?!?

    Here's a brief sound clip http://www.jeepz.com/videos/buckhour.mp3
  17. Buck hour

    Wtf?!?

You can hear it thru the manifolds. But no not they the carb. It happens to frequently to be only one valve. I've sent a sound clip to terri. He said he would post it here.
  18. Buck hour

    Wtf?!?

Is there a way for me to post a sound clip on here?
  19. Buck hour

    Sound clips?

Does anyone know if there is a way to post sound clips from my iPhone on here? It seems like it would be a really useful tool in helping diagnose problems.

    Wtf?!?

No I haven't. But I don't beat on her and the noise started while it was idling. I'm leaning more towards a distributor or the "bid" ignition box.
