    304, 360, or 401

It depends on what you want. If you just want the V8 sound and moderate power, then the 304 makes a nice option because it can still be really economical if set up right. The 360 is a better choice if you want a little more power without really going crazy. They are cheap to obtain because they...

    Jeep seats

The only aftermarket Jeep seats I can comment on are the older style Bestop super seats and those one piece black plastic racing buckets like you can get from Summit Racing. The Bestop seats are okay. Kind of on the firm side, but the padding and covers are durable. My favorite seats are the...

    YJ frame under a CJ

Repairing the original frame is an option, but it has to be done right. There are certain procedures and methods involved in repairing a frame that you need to make yourself aware of if you've never tackled a job like this. That said, I'd go with the YJ frame. It's a better built and more...

    YJ frame under a CJ

You need the 6 cylinder version since you plan to put a V8 in it. The engine mounts are different between the 4 and 6, but an AMC V8 will drop in place of an AMC inline 6. So putting your 304 in a 6 cylinder YJ frame is easy. The reason the wider spring is better is because it doesn't have to...

    Help with 360

You're right rooster, they would have had a different part number. AMC engines are externally balanced, so the flywheels/flexplates and harmonic balancers are size specific. All other external parts are pretty much interchangeable between the 304-360-401. The older 290-343-390, which are just...

    Time To Lift

On a TJ? I have 31s on mine and it's all stock. You must have some wide wheels if they don't fit the Jeep like it is. I certainly wouldn't go with anything more than the coil spacer lift if you just want to get it up off the tires a little bit. Spend the money elsewhere until you get ready to...

    Help with 360

That SR-4 transmission has absolutely no business behind a V8. It is a Ford unit originally designed to go behind the 2.3L in vehicles like the Pinto. My first CJ had one in it behind a 258. After hopping up the engine a little with a shaved head, good ignition, 2150, and exhaust it immediately...

    Custom Turbo Setup

15.1 in the 1/4 is respectable from a NA 4.0 XJ. I've had a couple of older 258s that would scream, and once you mess with a good healthy inline six it's hard to get it out of your system. Especially when you consider how reliable they are and that they have a very stout bottom end. Very linear...

    2.5L performance?

Like Ron said, the Jeep 2.5 is a different engine than the old GM Iron Duke. I think the Iron Duke eventually evolved into the Quad 4 engine that came in some GM fwd cars, like the Old Cutlass Calais from the 80s-90s. It's a damn good four popper. The key to making the 2.5l pop is to set the...

    Custom Turbo Setup

This is cool, and I can't wait to see some pics. Is this going to be a trail Jeep? I love stuff like this... if you need any brackets or mounting plates cut then just give me a shout and a drawing of what you need, I'd be happy to help if I can. I can laser cut up to .500" steel, .500"...

    Hi Lift Question

Buy a can of black(or red) paint and keep it touched up. I have stuff powdercoated all the time, and while it's a great protective coating, it will chip on something that gets used like a jack will. Keep some fresh paint on it and rust won't be a concern. Besides, 99% of the time, a Hi-lift is...

    Peugot 5 spd. Trans.

Yeah if you keep it maintained properly it might last a long time depending on your driving and the other mods to the jeep... but when it dies, I wouldn't spend any money fixing it or replacing it with another one... upgrade time.

    Jeep and Speed ???

Top down is the best way to do it, but keep the windshield up. The most fun I've had at high speeds in a Jeep was when I drag raced a guy in a 4wd converted El Camino on 38s one time in my little YJ(on 36s) and we hit 110-115mph, which was basically that Jeeps top speed. It had rained earlier...

    Adding power sterering to '82CJ5

I had to convert my current CJ to power. I used a CJ power setup that I had laying around, but it seems to be getting hard to find those around here. Apparently you can use the GM boxes, or any similar Saginaw box(I think they are marked "76"?), as I know people who have them on their Jeeps...

    AX-15 Shifter

I don't think you can just switch the sticks around between the two towers, but I really can't visualize the two setups in my head right now... it's been a while since I've had to mess with either one... Maybe you could just cut each one off of the tower below the boot and then weld the good...

Can my old 5 speed work with my new 4.0

Some people have decent luck with that Peugeot 5 speed, depending on their driving style, but it's really not up to any hard use behind a healthy inline six. The auto you have is a nice box though, and it should live a nice long life if serviced properly.
