New weber carb in a 258 issue

I not going to get into a argument over vac advance, and from your last explanation, I think you are the one that don't have a grasp of vac advance and how it works. your engine timing is never locked unless "you" lock it or your at total timing at wide open throttle, the timing is always...

    Help building my cj5

from the type of wheeling you will be doing, and your tire size, I don't really see the need for dana60,s. I think a pair of wagoneer dana 44,s would do just fine. Look into boxing the frame.

    304 to 258

If the 258 doesn't have a carb, most likely you will need one. You will need to run the fuel line down the opposite frame rail from where it is now. One motor mount needs changed and they bolt on so that shouldn't be difficult ,cant remember which side it is. Use the same alt. That should be...

New weber carb in a 258 issue

I have to totally disagree with you dragon on the vac adavance. vac advance is indeed used and active up the point centrifugal takes over, which is usually around 2500- 3000 rpms. cruising, vac advance is in play, vac advance is affected by load which affects engine vac, centrifugal is affected...

    1979 CJ Won't start

I always thought backfire through carb was rich, I could be wrong. white plugs do indicate lean though! being there in person would be a lot easier to diagnose than the intro net. Can the OP give a update? When I got my jeep, It ran decent but would backfire, buck and stumble at times, turned...

New weber carb in a 258 issue

I think further explanation is needed here: The above is completely correct WHEN you are running full manifold vac to the dist and NOT ported vac. Ported vac works the opposite of full manifold vac, it will have 0 or little vac at idle and vac will increase as load is applied up to a point then...

    YJ Steering clearance issues

Just thought of something that may be another option for you. They make offset spring plates that let you mount your spring either as the factory did or 1" forward or backwards. The plate has three holes in it one forward, center, and rearward depending on how you want. That may be another...

    YJ Steering clearance issues

Look at Rock Equipment kit at OK4wd.com 129.00 I have heard from very trusting sources this is a good kit. I have hear the goferit kits are ok but wear out over time and become loose. I am getting the rock equipment kit in a couple weeks because my tie rods are against my springs.

    Lower steering shaft repair

can you post a picture? I have to agree that when I did my first one I thought the same thing, but it does. A picture would let us know it is together correctly. Im not sure if it will even go together incorrectly.

    YJ Steering clearance issues

you may want to consider a tie rod flip kit. It moves the tie rods to the top of the steering arm instead of under, this may solve some of you clearance problems if the others don't solve it. The good kit is about 125.oo

    83 CJ7 steering limited

#1. from the photos it looks like you have a spring over lift (spring on top of axles), do you have a drop pitman arm, not a straight one? #2 If The steering shaft was removed to do the lift the box may have not been centered when reinstalling which would affect left and right steering. Check...

    YJ Steering clearance issues

I have a cross over steering conversion on my cj that is VERY similar to your yj,s steering. The bent tie rod end on the passenger side you mention is bent towards the front not the rear as you say yours is. You may want to check some photos of yours, as I believe it should be pointing forward...

    1979 CJ Won't start

was that hose hooked to the pcv sucking air? (pulling vac). As I understand it, the pcv valve sucks unburnt fuel mixture back into the carb to be reburnt. so it sounds as if you are running rich and igniting unburnt fuel through your exhaust (back fire). not sure why the filter stopped it...
