YJ 4.5" Rough Country Lift Kit Install

The rears appear to be correct. They are to prevent your shackles from becoming inverted flat against the frame the opposite direction when flexing. your springs can flex to the point that your shackles can swing in the opposite direction laying them flat against your frame.. the bend in the...

YJ 4.5" Rough Country Lift Kit Install

The rears appear to be correct. They are to prevent the shackle from becoming inverted up against the frame, as when the springs flex they can flex to the point that they can kick your shackles back the opposite way laying your shackle flat against the frame instead of where they should be. The...

YJ Transfer Case Nutsert Install Questions

Well, you have a problem.. been through it in the past and its no fun. did it on a 79 cj which has a boxed frame as yours. I was advised to cut a small square out of the frame next to the nutsert in the side of the frame. Once the cut out is made you can get a wrench in there and take the...

1979 CJ7 Quadra Trac - With a Chevy 350 Vortex Motor- Need radiator

Well, I tried to upload a picture of my radiator with the tarus fan on it, but cant seem to get it to load. I used my computer to take the picture and used the "insert image" on here but it didn't work, worked in the past?? My radiator is 26" wide and 19" tall and fills the whole radiator...

1979 CJ7 Quadra Trac - With a Chevy 350 Vortex Motor- Need radiator

Speedway motors.. They have aluminum jeep conversion radiators, or regular chevy radiators,. I put one in my jeep with GM v8 and its cools awesome, I rarely turn the fans on. $129.00 + shipping, I think mine was around 155.00 to my door. The 129.00 aluminum radiator doesn't have any mounting...

    Spark plug gap

Glad its running better. if this is a HEI distributor, I totally agree with opening up the plug gap anywhere from 40-60, many go 70. My plugs are gapped at .45 with a HEI. The HEI is a high voltage dist, and to benefit from that higher voltage the gap must be opened up to create a larger hotter...

    Motor timing 180* out?

Not all carbs have both ports. The big switch from manifold vac to ported happened in the 70's and not all carbs built after that had both ports, some did, some didn't. You can tap directly into the manifold to get full time vac. I haven't read through this whole thread but sounds like you are...

    Motor timing 180* out?

Their are two ports you can use for vac advance, one is full time manifold vac, which would be any port under the carb throttle plate or on the manifold (draws vac at idle). The other is ported vac, which would be the port on your carb above the throttle plate (little or no vac at idle, but...

    1993 YJ lift kit suggestions!?!?!?!?

Look into BDS kits (big dicks suspension). Great springs and they have a no fine print life time guarantee. I bent a spring in a non off road accident and they replaced it with no questions, just returned the bent one and they sent a new one. ride good, flex good, does take a little while to...

    New

I would have thought with the popularity of off roading in the last few years, that they would have put a straight axle under it.. Don't think they have a off road work horse there.

    Help!!!!!

A three spd in a wrangler???? That's a cj transmission probably, your engine may be cj also. I had a 4cyl that would die in the rain, was a cracked distributor cap. This could be the coil going bad as well. The coil will get hot and shut the jeep down, usually starts back up after a few minutes...

    Quadtra-trac switch

Yes the t400 was a stock item, and yes it is vacuum operated so if it doesn't function check the vac lines. And the rear axle should be offset as stated.

    78 cj7 back in 2009

I notice it looks like you cut the frame in half??? what was going on there? is that how you stretched the wheel base. im thinking of just moving my spring mounts forward in the front the the edge of the bumper as you did, and doing the same in the back. I figure that will get me around 4-5"...

I like ugly parts. Got any?

What kind of steering is on the jeep? stock steering on our year jeeps is terrible (Ross steering). Google "Saginaw swap for early jeep" power or manual. If it is going to be a street driven jeep, I would look into it.

I like ugly parts. Got any?

Your welcome. I will help in any way I can. I pretty much have the same jeep as you with a gm v8 and car 4spd adapted to the 18tcase(which has the out put yoke on the passenger side for the offset rear axle), had the same axles until I stripped the pinion gears hot rodding on the street, now...

I like ugly parts. Got any?

The 80's 4cyl bellhousing has provisions for hydraulic clutch slave cylinder (Only 80's 4cyl cj,s got hydraulic clutch) to bolt directly to it. This would also be a great time to convert to swinging peddles and hydro clutch. Your stock clutch linkage WILL bind up offroad leaving you unable to...

I like ugly parts. Got any?

People have run offset dana20 axles in cj7's with success but the "7" has a bit more wheel base which lessens the ujoint angles on the dshaft.
