With my calipers I measured the following;
Distriutor Notch width .364"
Adapter Notch width .364" X .210" height
...and with the Adaprter mounted the gap measured about .0125"
yesterday during my short break I got out the Adapter and noticed that it fits very snugly, good news that as I've heard from some that theirs wobbles.
Out of a bag of screws I found the one that, with the help of some CRC Lectra-Motive and cutting fluid it threaded right in. I went to drill...
Finally I went to home Depot and found a pkg of 3/8 cable clamps, of course I had to find them myself because the hired hands were too busy kibbutzing to help me find 'em. A couple of minutes on the bench girnder and I have clearance for the cap notch. I've just got to deburr the dingus and bend...
After four local shops I finally found a metal cable clamp that I can modify that'll fit the groove of the Distributor. After all that I was surprised to find that cable clamps aren't as common as I thought.
Well the Cap, Adapter and Rotor earlier than I thought, I quickly fabbed up that pop can retainer clip but I think I'm going to hunt for something more substantial.
Thanks a lot Terry, Last night despite dealing with the crud since two days ago I popped the hood and pulled the distributor cap and like JH's photo above I found the Alignment Notch but where that Alignment Tab goes I couldn't feel a screw hole but there was another notch about an inch away...
From one of JeepHammers fine threads;
V-8 DISTRIBUTOR UPGRADES WILL NEED A DIFFERENT ALIGNMENT TAB FOR THE UPGRADED CAP!
This is VERY easy to do, I usually use the side of a pop can, a razor knife or tin snips and needle nose pliers...
These are graphics showing what the alignment tab looks...
So, when I first got 'BB' she had an unmolested ignition system, this seems to be for the 1978 V8 motor, by the service manual.
In the process of detirmining a no start issue last year I got a Standard/Blue Streak cap and rotor and redid the abraded spark plug wires with a set of Accell wires...
EPILOGUE
Well winter is almost over and I took 'BB' out to work last week and she ran out fine. Fired right up after running the starter a little while and no more spitting out of the carburator. It turned out that with that stuck valve the compression stroke was squirting fuel back through the...
I've had great luck with Superbrightleds for my speedometer lights, I think their retrofit 3156 would be the ticket

On my '78 CJ5 (V8) I used the '98 Ford Coutour/Merc Mystique dual fan it it was practically a perfect fit. In the process I heard from some that mentioned the twin fans had a higher flow rate, but I don't know about that, but it has the same three wire hookup, unless you get elaborate about...
When I was first getting aquainted with 'Black Betty' I noticed this kind of odor too. Once getting into it the wheel bearings were wearing funny and after several iterations of bearings and insertion depths in that AMC 20 I gave up and had a D44 built for her. After getting the 20 on the ground...
I'd forgotted about this gem until someone on another forum posted for help on how to best mount up their radio gear.
This is rock solid stable way better than those rattly things from the '70's
Yep, no wonder I was getting an idiot light. No discernable impact while driving though, I just hate those idiot lights. I reckon the next one I have to tackle will be the intermitent ABS light.
At least I found these O2 sensor extensions to make the going easier the next time;
