It should have one due to NHTSA laws in effect at the time of manufacture. DOT #J587, October 1981 even includes motorcycles.

If the bearing in the AC clutch is going bad it can cause drag on the motor too. Maybe the noise you hear is a plug wire misfiring?

Under the brake master cylinder on the steel lines is a pressure differential valve with a wire going to it. If you ground that wire the brake light in the dash will come on unless the bulb is burnt out or someone has tampered with the wiring.

Sounds like the AC compressor is seizing up.

It could also be one of the front axle joints is going bad.

Loom is actually the black plastic split cover that is to protect the cable inside from getting it's coating cut to the metal..

You need a 6 cyl YJ to get the mounts, etc from. The wiring harness and computer needs to be '91 to '95 4.0 (YJ, but XJ is the next simplest) '99 is a PITA to rewire.

On the cluster, see if someone "borrowed" some of your fuses.

Check to see that no-one pulled any fuses! After that, wind up all the windows, lock the doors then open them from the passenger's side with the key
