97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

Very odd. However after removing the cover the entire perimeter was covered in red rtv. You think that is stock ? Which would lead me to believe it was serviced at some point. Not sure what would be serviced unless it was a fluid change. Seems maybe the loctite failed on those bolts...

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

After watching many gear replacement vids I’m gonna replace the guts. I plan on stock everything so a D35 is ok with me. Many replies on FB group say get a D44!! I have no plans on 4 wheelin enough to need a indestructible diff. And this will be a learning experience as well. Sent...

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

Nope. I just heard something snap that night and it started with the clicking. I’ll have rotate shaft to see if those are the ones missing from the ring gear I guess one of them backed out enough to maybe hit the housing or something and then got caught between that and the bolt head next to...

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

I’m guessing it might be two bolts that hold the ring gear on the carrier. The bolts in this picture show two of them that look just like the sheared ones I posted Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

It would appear that both those bolt pieces are heads meaning two bolts broke ? Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

I’m guessing putting force against the carrier when turning right made this teeth really chatter at driveline rotation speed. Whilst turning left force was against the opposite side hence no noise ? Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

Well. Seems some bolt broke and then messed up a couple pinion teeth. Any idea what bolt could have broken ? Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

I’m hoping it’s just a messed up spider. I haven’t gotten to it yet. But will this week. It’s drivable just annoying with the noise. Everything breaks eventually. Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

So I’m gonna crack open the rear diff. Pretty sure it’s spider gears at this point. Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

    92 YJ Charging System

Hmmm. I had same issue with only 9v then surges to normal. It was alternator. The alternator from what I understand has a built in regulator that gets its que from pcm to open the regulator when a certain voltage is hit from the battery. Ie lower than 13 volts or so. I would get a second...

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

Yea I replaced the u joints on R ds already. I didn’t hear anything while spinning wheels off ground but I will again and see if I can find loose axle or other issues. I was convinced it was a u joint but apparently Not. Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

The knocking is consistent with ds speed not so much axle speed. Could it be the bearing at the pinion? Although I’ve never rebuilt a diff I may have to 🤷🏻*♂️ Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

So what part in the diff would create that knocking. It def related to ds speed. I haven’t tried swerving in N yet. I would think with power train in N might lead to a suspect. Maybe a busted pinion tooth? Sent from my iPhone using Jeepz.com mobile app

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

I’ll try that. I did have it off ground and free wheeling for the ds removal but didn’t notice anything however I wasn’t looking for it per se. I’ll try that again. Seems the sideways force of turning makes it loud and silent the opposite opposing sideways force. And it’s not there 100% of...

97 tj. Something snapped in the rear ??

Coming home one night I heard a peculiar part break, at least that’s what I thought. Immedialty after I heard what to me was a busted u joint in the rear drive shaft. Sure sounded like it as it was speed related and very quick similar to the shaft turning. No problem. I just got around to...
