How much shorter did you have to go? I ask because I have a six inch lift and my driveshaft is a little on the stretched side as it is. The 44 might bring it back to spec.

Mine came with the thermo spacer that goes between the adapter and the carb. It's suppose to correct the misshaped mr. Gasket adapter I have. Glad you found the problem.

I've swapped out my axles before. So I have wide track axles now. This is my second amc 20 that is giving me problems. I was thinking of a one piece axle swap, but the Dana 44 has the same gear ratio I have now. Figure I might as well go with the 44.

I've never had to use a cam gear puller. They usually come right off. The most I've had to do was put a little tension on it with a screwdriver and give it a tap with a rubber mallet. Good job on covering your bases before taking on the project.

The regular one should be fine. I've never seen the Chrysler puller.

Not necessarily a dent. But even just a scrape can grenade a driveshaft.

You said there isn't much room for a bigger shaft. Could it be the driveshaft is hitting something while your off road?

The puller for the dampner is a must. While the rest aren't really necessary, they will make the job easier.

Yep. And there's the old school method of using your lips and tongue to test the power valve. Doesn't taste very good but if it holds it's fine. Lol

I am looking at the same problem with my cj 7. The amc 20 has a inner seal for the oil and an outer seal mostly to hold the grease for the bearing in and keep contaminates out. Did you try and see if there's any vertical movement in the axle shaft? If there is your bearings are probably shot...

Oh yeah, I forgot yours was stroked. Your right, I would think the 1.14 would be perfect. If you have more mods, bigger cam and stuff you may need more on the intake.
