    My $120 CJ7 build

Axles and springs are off. She's finally down to the frame. Well, almost. The steering box and front sway bar are still on, but I'm going to see if their location can remain unchanged if possible. It will remain upside down for a while, as I still have some brackets to cut and grind off in the...

    My $120 CJ7 build

Trans and T-case is out... Brandy inspects my work. Zero comments so far. Just wondering, does this thread need to exist?

    My $120 CJ7 build

Engine came out today along with brake and fuel lines. Here you can see the old ventilated I-6 (#3 rod through block) on a couple car dollies, and behind it on the engine stand is the Mopar 360 that will go in Jeep when all is said and done.

    My $120 CJ7 build

Spent yesterday taking (breaking) off the body mount bolts to the old tub. Three of them broke. I'm going to position the Jeep so I can take the old tub off and set it on saw horses next to the "new" tub 'til I get it ready to mount. With my memory it will be easier to just remove parts from the...

    My $120 CJ7 build

Wow, totally lost track of this forum. I have made some progress. Not as much as I'd like, but some... Teardown of CJ5 is complete, frame and tub is sold, and CJ7 has been rolled into the garage. THIS is my true starting point. The CJ5 was for parts I will use on the build of this (the $120...

    My $120 CJ7 build thread

Can't tell, I'm not a very good mechanic, but it sounded like a knock from inside like a rod is loose, or a lifter not full of oil.

    My $120 CJ7 build thread

Turns out the engine has a knock in either the front or second cylinder. It will barely run, but it should be rebuildable. Knowing something is better than knowing nothing. I'll pass it on when I go to sell it. Thumb is healing very slowly, and the cold weather not helping, but a few more...

    My $120 CJ7 build thread

Doors, hood, windshield off, and rear seat out. Real hard to do anything with only one thumb in working order. Got a buddy coming over to help see if we can get the 258 running tomorrow. Don't really care, I'm not using it, and I'm not putting a single dollar in it, but it would be...

    My $120 CJ7 build thread

THIS is my true starting point. The CJ5 was for parts I will use on the build of this (the $120 CJ7)... that first has to come down to the frame. Step one, Remove the hard top. Step two, injure self. Had my son helping me work on the Jeep. I’m trying to pry an electric connector off the...

    My $120 CJ7 build thread

Ever see a $120 Jeep CJ7? Well, you have now. Just rolled her into the garage yesterday for a frame off build. Of course, it will take a year and a half, and thousands of dollars from now, but she'll be looking way better, and running too. Here's the story. I picked up a 1980 Jeep CJ7...

    My $120 CJ7 build

Over the last few weeks I've continued tear down of the CJ5. I got the side steps off. Got the twin stick cable shifter off the T-case. Fire extinguisher came out. Radio antenna mount came off. Got my center console (20mm ammo box) out. Salvaged a few electric parts from the dash. Tach out...

    My $120 CJ7 build

How long since you've seen a CJ7 for $120? Well, you can't expect her to run, but here she is. This is a result of changes plans... I had started a "retired cripple builds a '79 CJ7" thread. Well, I came into this, and the extra 10 inches of cargo room and the rather nice hardtop will do...

    Retired cripple builds a '79 CJ5

Haven't had much energy or money to put into the project, but I have done a few small things. New front recovery points are off my old F250. Put in a CB. Not many places to fit a full size radio in a CJ5. I welded a couple bars between the top runners on the roll cage. I used an old...

    Retired cripple builds a '79 CJ5

Got the JB twin stick cable shifter mounted, but can't get the transfer case to move out of neutral in the front drive. Shifter is good, T-case is messed up somehow. Worked 2 weeks ago... ??? Took the front passenger seat out, and built Brandy a temporary front seat dog bed. I'll have to re...

    Retired cripple builds a '79 CJ5

Brown Santa dropped off my new J B twin stick cable shifter today. If all goes well, that will go on within the next week.
