yj motor mounts

I have an intermittent rattle under the front of my jeep. I have not been able to find anything out of the ordinary with the exception of the motor mounts.
there is quite a gap between the rubber and the steel at the top of the mount. do any of you think this could cause a shift and make a rattle underneath?. there is no rhythm or reason to the rattle, it comes and goes. any help would be appreciated.

I doubt a motor mount will rattle,but a faulty motor mount can case something else to rattle.

I'm thinking, cause your motor mount is worn, and when you rev the engine your entire drive train rotates slightly, I bet your transmission mount is a little worn as well and where your exhaust hanger attaches near the transmission is broken and that ithe source of your rattle. Just guessing though.
