Ive got a 99 Cherokee and the passenger door had 1 problem, now its got 2. Between the 2 hinges there is a sliding bar that holds the door open. Somehow the pin came out and the bar slid part way back into the door jamb. It looks like you should be able to pull it back out and put the pin back in but I cant pull it out. Was wondering, 1... what is this thing called and 2... how do you get to it and fix it...... now the other problem......

while pulling the inside panel off trying to get to the sliding bar I accidentally bent the rod for the door lock, now the door lock doesnt work right. I got it locked but its hit and miss with it working. So my other question is now, once the bar is bent, its no good correct? And if so where can I get a replacement. The dealer im assuming? I searched for "cherokee door lock rod" and came up with nothing. And whats the actual term? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Jeepz.com. That thingy your reffering to is called a check strap or a door check. Pick one. you can remove this if you wish by taking the 2 bolts that holds it's base inside the door. Make sure the window is in the up position. In most cases, you can just grab it with a vice grip pliers and pull it out then install a new roll pin. The rod you are reffering to on the second issue is called a ROD:D. You can just bend this back as close as possible to it's original contour if you wish. Replacement is not necessary. Resistance is futile:lol:..

The rod is annoying, I remember this happening one other time on a different vehicle and it was a nightmare..... I couldnt get the lock working properly whatever I did. I just wanted to fix the small "check strap" problem cause im selling it soon :( grrr .....

.....anyone interested in a 99 Cherokee Limited in the Buffalo area? 125k miles..... runs like a beast.... passenger door doesnt lock 100% of the time :(

So I feel like an idiot, lol. I grabbed some vicescripts and pulled that door check back where it needs to be. Took about 2 and a half minutes, total walk from the tool box to putting the pin back, lol. Door has been swinging in the breeze since last year.

Also got the lock fixed. (The inside door panel really comes off easy on a cherokee), It took 3 tries but got the rod bent back into shape fairly easily. Good as new!. Alittle bit of direction from someone more experienced really goes a long way. Thanks
