Red Wire?

Can ya'll tell me what the red wire is that comes out of the bottom of my intake manifold? Its got a connector on it, that looks like it touched the exhaust at one time, because the tip of it's melted. I just noticed it today, and that it wasn't connected. ('89, 4.2L)

nevermind...figured it out....manifold heater.

Yep, & you should try to hook it back up if you can. It helps warm the fue/air mixture, but only until the thermostat lets warm water circulate through the intake.

This keeps liquid gas from washing the cylinder walls, thereby extending engine life.
