what is the 232 engine that jeep had what engine is that? i know its not the 4.0 and not the 4.2 what is it something like a 3.9??? hehe

it is a smaller version of a 258 used from like 69-72 or something...

EDIT: it was the base engine from 72-78. not 69-72.
on the website it says hard to tell from 258 from outside, so i wonder how many ''258s'' are really 232s in 72-78 jeeps??

Had one in my 78 CJ7. Came factory, and was inline 6. Yhe easiest way to identify them is a Large "E" stamped or cast on the block by the distributor.

What size gapped spark plugs???

what does the E stand for?

Unpredicatable start

It was just their engine designation letter. A = 258 reg. B= 258 low compression c=258 2 bbl carb.E=232 reg F=232 low compression. H=304 v8 2bbl N=360 2bbl P=360 4 bbl Z=401 4bbl. This is from 1973 until 1980.

THis engine code is the 6th character in the VIN # for the Jeep vehicle.

Glad I could help. I have these older Chilton shop manuals, and I am more than happy to share the info.
