I have a 87 jeep wrangler with a 4.2 and I had a crack in transfer case got it welded up but do not know what or how much fluid it takes, in transmission of case. I do not know what transmission I have nither

Your transmission is likely the Peugeot BA10/5 if it's the 5spd. Your transfer case is either the 207 or 231 and should take about 3 quarts of ATF.

Yours is a stick? I thought you had an auto, like me. If its an auto, its a tf999 and your transfer case is an np307 or 207. One of the benefits of the 87 models......ha ha ha. I am joking on that as a benefit benefits deal.

Ok, then what the other guy said. You can swap to an auto with the cherokee transmission. Someone put a link in one of my threads that was great and had all the info.

Only if you use the TCU from the XJ has the auto has it's own computer, and you have to interface it with the YJ's electronics. The XJ auto also clocks the transfer case lower than the YJ transmissions, so you may have crossmember interference.

yup but its all covered in that link. didn't look to hard to do. the worst part to me is getting a drive shaft fit to it
