    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

Thanks guys and gal. It is a topic of its own but a relevant one that everyone should really think about. I do believe I will mount mine to the frame with the use of extensions. Just seems like it will hold the tub more solidly and become more solid of a unit. Might make a thread later about it...

    Does anyone know these wheels?

I finally found a set that looks identical to them. Labeled as Ansen ET US Indy Western style aluminum slotted wheels 15 x 10. I also did see the stock style that look a lot like them but not quite as deep. I found them on eBay. Way too expensive for my blood. I'll keep a close look on...

    Aftermarket wiring harness 76 CJ5

I may end up trying the EZ kit, depending on how it goes for you. I was mainly thinking about the painless because lately I don't get much time off of work but supposedly we are going to a split shift so I will have 7 days off in a row every other week. This will give me ample time to sort out...

Makes since. I'll look for some extensions to buy. If you or anyone else can recommend some that would be a great start. I don't plan on rock climbing or anything too extreme with it but safety is always in the budget.

Glad you mentioned that. So what is the general consensus on the 6 point cage? To my knowledge they weren't stock. I like it but I don't have any experience with them.

    Aftermarket wiring harness 76 CJ5

Do you happen to know if any of these kits come with wiring harness clips that secure the harness to the firewall, fenders, and grill?

The original color was "brillant blue". I will be going back with that. I'm taking the body lift off and if I can't find another pair of the wheels that are on back then I'll go with a new set. I need some seat frames for those tan bestop seats. They are in decent shape so I think I'll hold on...

And before I forget. This was it when I bought it. Motor locked up and out in the weather for no telling how long.

Can't wait for the rebuild kit to get here. Tuesday....Tuesday. For the mean time I have been preparing the body to get it off of the frame. The dash is off, the transmission is out, and I got all the stuff out of the back. I started taking the body bolts out but a few are spinning with the...

    Aftermarket wiring harness 76 CJ5

Thanks John. I think I'll just save the extra cash to get the 10110. It will be a while before I get to the point of rewiring. Trying to get a master parts list of things I'm needing for this rebuild.

    258 Connecting Rods

I did notice that all of the rods and rod caps were stamped when I dismantled the engine but I didn't notice the three that had the same numbers on them. I do plan on giving the shop a call to see what they advise. I'm hoping that they have a set there. If not then I'll be looking for used set...

    258 Connecting Rods

Being my first rebuild, I expected to make some mistakes. The first big one that I noticed was not matching my rod caps with the rods after taking them out of the block. All of them are stamped but three of the rods and caps all have the number "3" stamped on the side. The others are 1,2, and 4...

    Aftermarket wiring harness 76 CJ5

After taking out my stock harness, I noticed that unless I want to repair many of the wires that I may be better off buying a new set. I've seen this Painless wiring brand on a few websites. Does anyone have experience with them and can anyone tell me the difference between the part # 10106 and...

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

So, got the call from the machine shop. The engine has been worked over before. Boring cylinders .060. Just ordered the master rebuild kit from northern auto and got the 68-201-4 comp cam. Done a quick google search before completing my order and found a promo code of "ve10off" which gave me 10%...

Wish I had fab guy. At this point I don't even have an engine guy. I just found your thread and glad I did. Build is looking good. I am definitely going to follow this thread.

Never mind. I found the master kit on their website. I see where they have selections of comp cams for an extra $64. Now just determining which one will be my next challenge. I like this website. A bit pricey but still cheaper than piecing it together I think.

The one upgrade I am considering is a mild cam. Any suggestion and do you think northern auto would taylor the sell for it?

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

Yes, purely in the engine alone it will be close to 850. I could get away with less but I want it to be practically a new engine when i am done so I will be replacing the distributor and pretty much anything else that isn't covered in the rebuild kit.

Anyone have a good source for a rebuild kit for it? I've been looking around on the internet and I have found a few kits by companies that I have never heard of. Also, I could use some words of wisdom about the transmission. Yet again I have no clue on the condition while running. I'm thinking...

    76 CJ5 project.....could use some advice.

The machine shop I brought It to today gave me a comforting feeling. I think those guys will be able to get me on the right track. I pulled the engine and got it to a bare block in the back of my buddy's truck. Dropped it off and got prices. Bore block: 72.00 Oven clean block and install cam...
