2 XJ questions and an identify this picture contest

Turns out those grills are to a 50s/60s Nash Metropolitan. Wonder what they're worth or where I'd go on the net to find out?

2 XJ questions and an identify this picture contest

I'm actually replacing the two front sway bar links (vertical pieces from the axle up to the sway bar), along with associated bushings and the two bushings that cushion the sway bar in the two brackets that attach it to the frame. Is #11 in that pic the track bar? I believe I replaced that...

!#@$*!$#!%$@#, !%^#$# - broke a rear top shock bolt off

Well title says it all. It was turning back and forth just a smidge too...so stupid me for putting too much force on it. From what I've been told just working it back and forth adding BP will eventually get it out. Any advice on what to do now that' it's just a sheered off bolt? It broke...

Is propane good enough for heating stuck bolts?

Yeah thanks. I've seen a vid where a guy got the bolts started out then used a pickle fork and vice grips to pry the bolt the rest of the way out of the bushing. I'm prob mostly concerned with getting the rear upper shock bolts out. Of course only the heads are exposed and the bar pin on the...

Which of these need either locktite or anti-seize?

Right on thanks for the advice. Might use some anti sieze on the upper shock mounts in the rear but that'll prob be it.

Which of these need either locktite or anti-seize?

The bolts I'm wondering about are... - upper and lower shock mounts, front and back - upper and lower control arm bolts - sway bar link to axle - sway bar link to sway bar - sway bar bracket to subframe - rear leaf spring bolts - going through the bushings - front and rear - rear left spring...

2 XJ questions and an identify this picture contest

Yes thanks for that advice. I've needed to hear that before. Turns out these are grills to a Nash Metropolitan. I might try to clean these up some and hang them on the wall. Any idea what I could do to get them looking a little better?

Is propane good enough for heating stuck bolts?

About to take out the leaf springs on the old XJ and I've spent a couple weeks now heating the bolt heads with propane and soaking in PB before I start in on em. I'll spend like 5 mins or more a bolt just heating right on it but it still doesn't seem like it gets the thing hot all the way...

2 XJ questions and an identify this picture contest

    1) Are the front and rear leaf spring bushings on a '96 XJ the same part? 2) My front sway bar measures 1.014 in or 25.75mm diameter. The bushings that attach it to the frame (on rockauto) are sold in 23, 24, 26, and 26.5 mm sizes. I would be looking for the 26mm? 3) and finally..what are...

    Leaf springs and shocks

Thanks JPN. Not going to like spending the extra money but in the end I'll be happier with better shocks. The only Bilsteins I've found so far are the heavy duty 4600 series for about $68 per. Is that the functionality I should be aiming for...something in the way of heavy duty? I'm only...

Need some direction on getting an impact wrench

Thanks for all the advice. Wish I could afford one of the batt types. I found a good deal on a slightly used 1/2" 800 ft lb pneumatic Husky from HD. I'll prob end up going with that one unless I hear some bad advice about it.

Bad wheel bearing / hub assembly

I'm dealing with an '02 Volvo S80 that's making a really loud whirring sound from the front pass wheel area that only gets louder the faster you go. After getting advice that it might be a bad wheel bearing I tested it by getting up to speed then steering left and right. The sound keeps up...

Need some direction on getting an impact wrench

What's a good impact gun for a decent price that will hold up well for a weekend warrior like myself? Probably be used less than 10 times a year. Harbor Freight had some for about $43 from Central Pneumatics that did something like 550 ft lbs. Although I'm not familiar with CP that one...

    Leaf springs and shocks

Couple questions. I'm replacing the bushings/shackles on the old '96 XJ leaf springs and I'm not sure how to go about disconnecting everything. Since the springs are under load I just don't want to jump into taking things apart on my first go round here. So do I just basically jack the...

Replacing upper and lower control arms on a '96 XJ

Yeah man the utube tuts have taught me at least half of what I know! someone was suggesting I go with adjustable arms. Is there an advantage to the adjustables if I'm just going for a stock OE replacement? My rig is all stock btw.

What's up with Gabriel Pro Guard Shocks?

I wanting to replace the shocks on the old '96 XJ and I'm wondering about these Gabriel Pro Guards I've found. My rig is all stock and I'm just looking for a good quality shock that gives just OE performance. Hardly ever off road. On websites these Pro Guards are listed between 'economy'...

Replacing upper and lower control arms on a '96 XJ

I'm about to replace both the upper and lower front control arms on my XJ and was wondering if there was any advice before I got started. Far as I can tell I just need to take a couple days spraying some PB on the bolts before I do the job and then just yank em out and put the new ones in...
