T176 5 speed ?

Hey guys,

Here is the deal. As some of you know already, I am having an LT1 put in my 04 Wrangler. The guy said he has a T176 transmission to put in it. My question to those more knowing than myself is, how good of a trans. is it, what did it likely come from, and how will it do offroad. Thanks for any input yall have.

T176 is a Jeep 4 speed from the 80's. Decent transmission, but not great.
I think your best bet would be to get a Chevy transmission that will work with the V8 and your Jeep transfer case. I think the 700R4 auto will work with both. It might need a spud shaft to adapt though. The morale of the story is that you have a common Jeep/Chevy 6 bolt pattern on your transfer case, so why not use a Chevy transmission. This way you eliminate the need for a transmission adapter.

The LT1 is going to put out alot more power than the T176 is rated for...I agree that a Chevy transmission would be your best bet.

If you haven't allready, call advanced adapters and get a few catologs from them. It will give you all the info you need on choices for transmissions/tc/mounts and so on.
