Soft top to hard top?

Okay. Looking at YJ/TJs for the future and have a question or two about the tops. Overall I want a hard top option, but if I find a real nice setup with a soft top what all is involved? If it already has the full doors with glass is it capable Of accepting a hard top or is there more involved? If it only has the half doors with the soft windows do u just have to but the doors or more? I just wouldn't want to pass up a nice setup if getting the hard top waz the only thing i had to worry about and it was easy. Thanks!

Any Wrangler can take either a hardtop or a soft top.

Both tops can run with half doors (a hard bottom and a canvas top) or with a full hard door (all metal with rollup glass windows).

For the most part, doors and tops for a YJ won't fit on a TJ and vice versa.

I've owned both hard tops and soft tops. I currently run a soft top year round, and have full hard doors for the winter and half doors for the summer. In my opinion, if you don't have a very cold winter, then go with the soft top. Hard tops are impossible to remove without another strong person (unless you use a hoist), while I can drop my soft top easily on the way home from work.

I recently bought a frame-less Trektop from Bestop. I'm still testing it out, but compared to my factory ragtop, I'm ubber happy with this one. pic included. If you have more questions about this one, let me know, i'll give you a pro/con list. Sorry for the big pic, don't have time to make it smaller ATM.

How much did you pick up the frameless for?? I would really like to keep one around!

I agree with Terry,I loved driving my soft top but now have a hard top for security reasons. I will be removing it during the spring and summer monthes as I already have a hoist in my garage.

I would recommend the top based on what you intend to do. For everyday use, the hard top is much more civilized. AC and heater will work better (will have to fight the environment less), and noise will be reduced. Also, the Jeep will be a bit safer from thieves (although not even close to invulnerable, but with the soft top, a thiev just needs to either unzip a rear window or use a knive to open it). A soft top will make the Jeep lighter and more stable (the hard top weights about 130lbs, all of wich at a high location, which affects your center of gravity), so it is better suited for wheeling...
