Skid plate Question

I was crawling around under my 90 YJ this morning.trying to find a rattling noise and I notice that my skid plate is hanging on with 3 bolts. Two bolt heads are through the plate and one the head is missing. Two of the 3 left just spin.
Anyway, is the frame threaded, or does it have those stupid plates in it like the body mounts?

I was thinking, cut off the bolts, tap the frame and install new bolts. Does this work?

I think the YJ also has the crush nuts on the frame like that found on the TJ skid plate retainers.

Thanks Steel, With The info you gave me I came up with, Nutserts. $74.00 for 6 and 6 bolts from the dealer. Anyone know where to get them cheaper?

What timing.

I was replacing the exhaust on my 98 TJ this past weekend and noticed 2 of my skid plate bolts were loose and would just spin. Looks like I need to replace a few too.

Any idea what is needed to get the loose bolts and nut out of the frame? I can cut the bolthead off, but how can I get the rest out? Thanks
