oil pressure problem

I have a 97 jeep sahara 4.0l engine. I live in hot florida. The problem happened with a drop in oil pressure at idle and knocking. I rev engine and stopped briefly and started again. I had new oil and filter recently. I am questioning the oil pump, oil filter type, and oil used 5w 30 regular. i had the jeep towed so as to not ruin engine. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I also live in Florida, run fram filters, and 10w40 oil. Change the oil every 2500 miles. I would look at oil pump first.
P.s. how many miles?

Check that the filter is correct.. It could be starving for oil

Thanks for the input. We are replacing the oil pump and dropping the oil pan is a bear. An exhaust pipe runs accross the oil pan and runs back thru catalyic converter into muffler. You know to disconnect the muffler is not going to just pull apart. I can not believe they engineered the jeep exhaust across the oil pan. Well we will work it out somehow. thanks for input. Mike
