Manual Transmission Rattle in Neutral, TJ

Question for the group.
I have an 04' TJ manual tran 6-cyl.
If I'm idling in neutral with the clutch disengaged I hear a very slight rattle. It sounds like transmission teeth are just barely rubbing...like almost ready to catch. If I engage the clutch, the noise goes away.

It's never slipped out of gear.

Is this a problem, or normal for a TJ?

Don't know if it's a problem but my 04 does the same thing. Mine I would describe as more of a 'rumble' or 'vibration' than a rattle. Kinda hard to describe but I'm interested if anyone else has this issue as well.

It's the throwout bearing...no biggie the all do it

Hi,

You might also hear a little noise as a result of the transmission input shaft having some play in it. IMO, nothing to worry about unless it gets very loud.
