Jeepz.com site questions/suggestions...

I've been on this site for a while and have often wondered who "owns" this site and has the power to make changes on the ENTIRE site, and not just the message boards? I do NOT mean to offend anybody and I praise all that are involved with the maintainance of this website. :) You all have done a great job. I do have some suggestions that have already been mentioned before, and I truly feel that they will make this site 1000 times better than what it already is.

1. Let the members post pictures and writeups without having to go through a moderator in the "readers rides" and the "how-to-section". If the post or picture is inappropriate, then the site managers, or moderators can, and should edit or remove it. I know that the reason the site has not been kept up is because the people in charge are busy, and I understand that. That is why am suggesting this.-al

2. Updating the parts of the site more often than it already are.

3. Listening to members sugestions. Something as simple as taking a suggestion, posting a poll to see how many members support it, and then if there is enough demand, executing the idea.

4. The chat room, in my opinion, is totally outdated. We can possibly link our site to "Yahoo! chat" room where we can possibly create a permanent room for Jeepz.com . It does not have to be Yahoo!, it is just a suggestion, but it should be something better than what we have here.

5. The message boards should all have a "sticky post" with a compilation of FAQ's. e.g. FAQ on YJ's , FAQ on TJ , and so on.

6. Start up a Jeepz.com store. We could print out stickers, caps, and other such things and sell them in our own store. Proceeds could either be donated to a worthwhile organization, or used on ourselves.

I was in charge of a large organization (Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity) for several years, and I know it takes a lot of work to do all these things I have mentioned, but if it was easy, everybody would do it. I am more than willing to help out in anyway I can.

I'm sure I am missing a lot of things that other will bring up and I know that some of the things I have suggested may not be feasible, but maybe we can try really hard to improve this site. Again, I do not mean to offend anybody. I am simply excercising my voice as a Jeepz.com member. :D

Actually, I think some of the ideas are good myself. The only thing is, I run a few websites too and there is no way your ever going to suit everyone that comes along or even a major percentage of them.

It is also not always possible to make the changes for many reasons unbenowst to the members of a site.

I just take things for what they are and go with the flow. Your ideas are good though, I will say that.

Just my thoughts.

terrymason owns and operates this site.

As for the FAQ stickies, I think they detract from the forums as it keeps new posts too far down the page. There are a lot of Jeep FAQ's out there, why reinvent the wheel here?

You've got some good ideas, nothing wrong with throwing them out there. Maybe try shooting Terry a PM.

Great! I will get a PM sent to terry. Like I said before, this is a great site. In fact, it is one of the friendliest I've had the pleasure of frequenting. I just wanted to throw out some ideas. I am going to stick around wether there is change or not. People like TUG, Bounty, and all the regulars make this a great place to learn and share. -al

Why thank you. Keep the ideas coming, can't keep change down. Even if they're not implemented it's good to hear fresh ideas and feedback.

I too think there should be some changes or updates. I think the readers rides should showcase the rides of the regular members to this site, not people who sign up to post a picture and never to be heard from again. Other than that, I'm happy with this site and plan on staying for a while.

I really want a way for readers to upload their own pictures, but have be hesitant to enable it.

When it was currently in operation, people would upload images, and I would then spend a considerable amount of time editing and optimizing them (I got alot of 4 mb BMP files).

My real reason for not allowing automatic picture uploades is that people could upload any type of picture that they want (think illegal...). I may investigate this again now, and see if it's possible to do this. If you guys see any really slick automated image upload scripts, plese pm me a link to them so that I can check it out.

I do plan on redoing the advertising, and the Jeepz.com store. I had deals with cafepress and quadratec, and made money for many months, but then the checks just stopped (even though I sent them more traffic).

Honestly, this is all about me devoting more time to it, and I realize that. I'm going to try and spruce the place up shortly.

Terry:
I and I hope many more here already applaud and appreciate what you have done so far. This is the top site for exchanging ideas and thoughts without getting flammed for our off track humor and suggestions.

A big high five for all you have done so far.

Thank you
Steven

FYI - a new reader's rides section is on the way. It's currently being beta-tested by the moderators.

Awsome,I have been waiting for the readers rides to be up for a long time. Thanks terry, keep up the good work! :) Sully

There's a new chat room now.

I think that a home brewed mod addition to the "how to" section would be cool. Members could add whatever inexpensive home made mods that they have done. there was a post about this, but if we could compile them and use them as reference that would be great. no more..."hey tug could you explain the posi-lock thing again" . and maybe a humor section...how many members does it take to change a light bulb, your a jeep owner if, etc... good stuff. :D
