ft hood?

i've been there and it sucks. it's dirty and no good places to ride.

I think you will like FT Hood and the Kileen area. Central Texas is a neat place, your not too far from Austin I think and the hill country.
Plenty of 4X4 clubs there to get connected with locally.

I live about 2 hours north of there. There are plenty of awesome lakes around for fishing or watersports, it is an outdoorsman's paradise.

oh yeah almost forgot to mention that the base offers one of the largest recreation areas available

FT HOOD MWR

How long do you expect to be there?

I was there from 93 to 95, it is what it says it is....The Hood!!!....as far as offroad goes you will have fun just watch out for tanks....lol

Greencuke, I am at Ft Hood now. I talked with one of the Game Wardens on the Hood last week and rumor has it that they are suppose to open up a ORV park on the Hood soon. (within the next year) I usually just go out around the land nav courses, but you have to be careful. They have pretty much banned all off road activity for POVs on Hood. As for clubs, I don't know of any in this area. I do see many Jeeps, but no club emblems. I do live right between two of the best fishing lakes in CenTEX, that is, if you like to fish. Hood is not like it used to be, we actually have many restaraunts and the population is near 100,000. But, don't expect any anonymity, this is a military town. Everywhere you go all you see is those freakin post decals and everyone working everywhere is usually a spouse. It's not bad though depending on where you're coming from. I just spent three years in Japan so I was glad to be back on American Soil Later, KJ

I live ther for a year back in 1981 and was not a bad duty station for me. I was in Hq of the 1st cav and had a good job back then as a recreation specialist. I was over the cavs swing pools ball fields and field houses. My ew wife was in charge of the fishing area of lake belton.

As for the Kleen town it sucks and has little to offer but fast food pawn shops and bars. Being a real bar fly back in the day it was not to bad hehehe oh yea there was a lot tatoo joints as well. Good luck and remember it is much better than being over in the middle of Bushes private war. What a sorry excuse for a president. Tug

Tug the town could have changed in the past 25 years:shock:

Who did you pay off to get the dangerous and stressful job of recreation specialist?8) 8) 8) 8)

It has changed alot. It's growing, now if we could just keep these young soldiers from killing themselves on the highway here or robbing someone, we'll be ok. If you don't like the killeen area, you have to remember we are pretty much smack dab in the middle of everything. Two hours from Dallas and San Antonio, and a little under one hour from Austin which is a pretty cool town. Then just spin your bottle and head that way, there's always something. Except ORV parks, you have to drive about two hours to get to one.

Little chance of Kleen ever changeing If God were to give the earth an enema it would be place there.

As for my Job in rec services after My tour in the Infantry and special training in inland water navagation, Glasicer crossing and Rock climbing then specializing in the artic high altitude rescue team at fort rich AK. I opped for a far more relaxed and less train to kill something envo! I was given a choice of clerk typist, Rec specialist, or mail clerk what would you have picked!!! hehehe tug

Yup I'm with you on that, give me the rec spec job over those anyday.

Back to the Kileen deal. When I was in San Antonio for Basic and Security Police school in the Air Force, it was 5 months of hell. It was summer, hot and I hated everthing about that town. I vowed to never return.

Since then as a civilian I have returned many times and I have a much better view of the town. Don't get me wrong, I still would not want to live there. But San Antonio has cleaned up it's act alot from the time I lost $40 to "Willie the street gambler" within the first hour I had a town pass.:) :) :) :)
