Hi All, My 90 cherokee is severely lacking in power from what it used to have. I put a timimg light on it and it showed about 18degree advance at idle and much higher at rev. IS THIS NORMAL?? Also, I unplugged the distributer and it made no difference whats so ever. Is this normal? please help! I have checked the fuel side thoughouly and all is normal there so it seems like computer or spark problem.

Don't know about the timing, you'll probably have to buy a Haynes/Chilton manual to find that out.

You may want to inspect your plugs and wires, one of them may be bad, that would cause a lack of power.

lots of advance usually results in more power at the expense of more heat. once you have too much advance then you start to spark knock. i dont think theres much you can do as your distributor may be keyed so you cant adjust it. when do you lose power? is it good of the line and then looses power or is it weak all the time?? i would start with a little maintenance work and change out the fuel filter and check the air filter see if its dirty. i would also say crawl under the jeep when its cold and bang on the catalytic with your fist. if you hear rattling inside like if theres gravel in it, then your catalytic has gone south and is clogging up the exhaust.
