I just purchased a 97 jeep wrangler sahara. I noticed a leak from the transfer case area. i know I will need to drop the skid pan to see better the leak. Has anyone also experienced this leak and is the fix extensive before i START ? THANKS FOR ANY HELP OR IDEAS.

i believe that common leak is the rear main seal. i think the repair is drop the pan and push it around the back of the crank since its a two piece. then replace with a new one and new pan gasket and your done.

never done hte job myself, repeating what i read alot

Could also be the seal between the transmission and transfer case (transmission rear output seal). Another possibility is the rear output of the transfer case.

Let us know what you find.

something to check before the two ones above (simply because it is easy and you dont need to remove the skid plate) is the O ring around the speedometer gear housing... Mine died and the leaking came from there (of course, this means the dripping will only b e noticeable AFTER driving, and will be on the rear of the TC).

What color is the fluid thats leaking? What does it smell like?
