88 jeep wrangler ba/10-5 peugot

[really confused!!!]

I am new to this but was just needing some advice hope someone can help me I have a 1988 jeep wrangler with a 4.2 258 -6cyl it has a ba/10 -5 speed peugot junkmission my question is there any other trans I can swap in place of this like the ax15 or ax5 and what would i have to change if there is any swap option I would really appreciate the info I got this jeep for my son and reverse lasted about a week and busted please help thanks.

I can't help you figure it out...but my 88 has the same engine (rebuilt less than 1500 miles ago)...with an AX-15 transmission. I love it....really nimble for a Jeep.

how many years did they make that transmission?

I have no idea...I just bought it two weeks ago and the previous owner did it. He said that year had crappy trans so he replaced it.
