2000 TJ:Will the stereo/speakers get messed up if wet?

This is my first posting to the message board, and I'm afraid it's not very interesting...

I decided to leave the top off my Jeep for the rest of the summer and just remove the carpeting and get seat covers to protect the seats. The question is, when it rains and there is nothing covering the stereo and speakers, will they be all right?

they wont be happy but they'll live for a while. i'm a jeep enthusiast but have also been into car audio since i was a kid. what i do on my jeep is spray them with silicone spray every so often. spray them when they are dry. the silicone will soak into the paper and make it water resistant. some argue that this causes the foam around the speakers to fail but i have yet to experience that in my 10+ of offroading. you can usually get at them through the grilles by using the little red tube that fits on the end of the spray nozzle. give them a couple of shots and then peek through the grills to see if you got the whole speaker. they will last you a few years with no issues providing you dont hit them directly with a pressure cleaner of garden hose.

a second option is visit your local car stereo shop or bestbuy and pickup a pair of marine grade speakers. those wont need any maintenance for a long time.
