Minimum clearance between radiator and fan cluth

Those little fins are the heat sink for the fan clutch! DON'T shave them off! The fan clutch operates from the heat drawn thru the radiator. As the radiator heats up, the warmed air then heats the fan clutch causing it to "grab" alittle more, thus, drawing more fresh COOL air thru the...

    Help with Hi-Lift jack

The Hi-lift jack is a great off-road tool, as you may already know, it can be used as a winch, can be used to unseat tires from rims, and of course lifting things up. There are some safety factors I think the owners manulas might not cover though (can't say for sure, it's been a few decades...

    Breather hose locations

Come to stink about it, my T18 doesn't have one! I was gonna add one to the top shifter plate! Haven't done it yet. Your transmission may not need one with the shift lever being the vent.

transmission whining in 2nd and 3rd

sounds like the "cluster gear" went out' My old T176 was noisy in all gears but 4th. The cluster gear is the main shaft all the other gears spin on. Not sure what the rebuild cost is, my back in the day (86' 87ish) bent me over for $800 Had I known I could have swapped in the T18 then for...

    t5 to a t18-easy switch?

You might need new drivelines also. The T5 is a 5sp I believe, and a small "box" the T-18 is HUGH in comparrison and weight! When I swapped out my T176 pos, my T18 was/is 2" longer and 90lbs heaver empty! I needed a longer front driveline and shorter rear drive line. Keep in mind, that there...

    Model 20 rear diff. ???

Yes, the mod 20 axle can be as good as a 44 almost! The 2-peice axles need to be swapped out for 1-peice. The axle tubes are just a little thinner that those on the D44. The ring gear in the Mod 20 is just a bit larger than that in the D44. So, there are pro's and con's for the Mod 20.

    Offroad Light Placement Question?

1044568 I can tell ya from experience that how you mount lights above the windshield will affect how they work for or against you. I mounted 4 KC style 150w off-road lamps to a "light bar" and when I fired them up, I couldn't see out the windshield! Every little spec of dust, moisture, bug...

Mopar MPI kit or 4.0L MPI Engine Swap

1044570 Sounds like a coin toss. I know the 4.0's are peppy engins, my friend has a 95' YJ, and it runs circles around my CJ-5 (with the Mopar kit) My set up though on my jeep is for rocks. With 4:10's lockers, 33" BFG's T18 w/ granny1st, it doesn't go any faster than 63mph down the hwy. I...

    Portable Air Compressors?

Diesel in a CJ? Interesting. If he did the work work himself, BZ to him. As far as air compressors, a belt (engin) driven compressor will out perform any portable electric compressor on the market. But, with a engin driven compressor, it takes a little more work to use it. It's has to be...

Wiring driving lights in to reverse light in taillights

1044993 Bucklahoo, A relay is nothing more that a remote switch. It has a coil that, when energized by 12vdc, the coil pulls a connector (switch) closed,(Normally open) and at the same time Opens a contact (for normally closed) The contacts on the switch part of the relay are rated pretty...

    alternator

1044996 I doubt your alternator is 117A on a 4 cyl.! At best maybe 63A thats normal. Maybe as high as 75A if you have A/C. As long as the engin is running, you won't hurt the alternator with the lamps on. [addsig]

Windshield Mounted Light Brackets: Advice Please!

1044997 I would strongly advise NOT drilling into the windshield for anything! It may sound like a neat idea right now, but after time, the windshield will rot away from it! The holes will leak, no matter how well you may "goob" them up with sealant. Eventually, you'll have problems. If...
