    Cj5 or cj7

My 78 CJ5 has no VIN plate on the windshield, just the sticker on the driver’s side of the dash. As I remember the sticker on the 72 CJ5 I had was over by the clove box and my 47 CJ2A also had a metal plate on the dash too. The book shows the Warn lockout hubs as six bolts up to and including...

    Cj5 or cj7

Johnny- I counted 5 lugs on the wheels but at any rate all of the CJs I’ve owned didn’t have a window VIN like a Wrangler but rather had a sticker somewhere inside the tub, mostly on the dash. I had a 1980 CJ5 where the sticker was on the inside of the tub just below the driver’s side door. The...

    No fuel, no start

I would think mechanical or electric pump if you can’t get fuel out of the tank by any means then there most likely is a crack/break in the line between the pump and the tank that is sucking air not fuel. Full blockage would be the other option.

    No fuel, no start

It would help if we had a little info on what the jeep is and whats in it.

    Cj5 or cj7

Well, it’s a 7 not a 5 no matter what the VIN says. You should have a VIN sticker on the dash driver’s side and a VIN plate on the firewall driver’s side. Also the VIN should be stamped on the top of the frame rail over the rear passenger wheel. I would check to see if they all match.

New to jeeps, want to buy a cj7 maybe

Amen! I used a 1972 CJ5 as a daily drivers for some time years ago; drove back and forth from Oregon to Montana. I remember driving through the Columbia River Gorge in a snow storm once where even with the top on it seemed to be snowing almost as hard on the inside of the jeep as it was on the...

    Cj5 or cj7

A picture would go a long way here but what is the shape of the door area? A CJ7 will look like a wrangler, square-ish while a CJ5 will have a curved shape on the backside of the opening. The one exception would be a CJ6 which will look like a CJ5 but be longer like a CJ7 Bumper to Bumper...

New to jeeps, want to buy a cj7 maybe

Well maybe, but not so fast. If the carburetor swap out was a Motorcraft 2100-2150 combined with a proper Nutter job to tame the vacuum hose mess then OK but if the Nutter job is not done right or if the carb is a Weber and you get a defective one you may have a never ending nightmare. I know...

New to jeeps, want to buy a cj7 maybe

What everyone is saying is fact but a lot depends upon what kind of daily driving you do and where you live. For example if your commute is only a couple of miles down the road in a nice weather State as opposed to an hour plus drive each way in subzero temps you might be swayed to a CJ; the...

    Replacing door hinges

I just had the same problem adjusting the hinges on my TJ; kept stripping out the inside of the torx bolt/screw. Steelheadz suggested a manual impact wrench. I highly recommend you use one as it forces the bit down as it turns but this alone did not break the bolts loose. I used a utility knife...

    squeaky clutch

Sounds like the springs on your clutch pressure plate to me; most likely time for a new one, but could be the return spring on the pedal. Remember the hydraulic throw-out bearing system on a 1995 is closed and not adjustable/bleedable so if you are have any problems with fully disengaging the...

    Found one

Sounds like a good choice to me. I have a 1999 Wrangler, 4.0, & auto. Yes the exhaust manifolds do crack (all of them) but you can get a new replacement for as little as $70 shipped to your door off ebay. The change out is easy, a couple of hours or so the first time, less the next time so don’t...

Correct brand for battery, plugs, etc

Johnny is right, Jeep begged, borrowed, & stole parts from who every they could get them from, and finding OEM brand parts is going to be hard to do as most of the replacement parts available today are made by aftermarket manufactures. In some years Jeep used a Motorcraft (Ford) alternator on...

    Newbie, with question!

I have to say the most favorite jeep of all I have ever owned was a 1947 CJ2A as I could turn that thing around on a dime; came in handy on old logging roads when they ended up with a washout.

And with a CJ5, the cool factor always comes in first!

    Newbie, with question!

The only negative I can give you is that CJs tend to be a bit of a stiff ride with their leaf springs. TJs (1997 to 2006) have coils springs and a much softer ride. You might want to try driving both first before you buy. I find that I don’t enjoy being thrashed around while driving down a back...
