    good little cherokee!! problem solved!!

Hi, If it cut out instantly (like an electrical problem), I'd first check the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS). It is located near the top driver's side of the transmission bell housing and can/will cause the vehicle to stall and/or not start if the computer looses its signal. -Nick :!:

Not your ordinary O2 sensor question.

Hi, Black should not be +12 volts. Yes, there are some wires which are black WITH a color tracer which might be hot wires, but I don't think I've ever seen a solid black wire used for +12 volts, it just isn't correct  Be sure you are looking at the wire colors at the harness end, not...

    OFF TOPIC-Lady Jeepers Advice Needed

Well, then I guess it is a very good thing that I'm so knowledgeable about electronics and know how to read schematics. -Nick :!:

uh ok, but safety should be a priority. I'd be concerned about riding in a Jeep with that grade of "mod". -Nick :!:

4wd drives light not working, but 4wd appears to work

I don't know. I'd assume they're in the same place, as most of the wiring/electrical is the same place on early model year XJs. -Nick :!:

    AC Compressor troubles....

Though, he'd have the exact same problem if a bearing is shot in the compressor. I suppose it wouldn't be as bad since OBA doesn't reach the pressure of an A/C system's high side, but could still cause problems. -Nick :!:

4wd drives light not working, but 4wd appears to work

Hi, The switch which turns on the light is NOT the vacuum switch at the transfer-case. The transfer-case switch is purely mechanical, while the one for the lamp is electro/mechanical. The switch is a small blue cylinder (which resembles a typical blue capacitor) and is mounted to the passenger...

Not your ordinary O2 sensor question.

Hi, Your best bet is to look at a good electrical schematic for that model year (Haynes or Chilton don't count). Though I doubt it will help you unless you own a TJ, the 02 sensor pinouts are as follows (for a '97 TJ and likely other years): Upstream Oxygen sensor: 1) Heater +12 volts...

    Control arms?

Hi, I reused my stock control arms after adding the 3" lift to the cherokee, and it was a stretch (though they seem to work ok). I find it hard to imagine being able to use the stock ones for any larger lift without problems. Then again, the '97 and newer cherokee's control arms may be designed...

    AC Compressor troubles....

Hi, It is likely a bearing in the air conditioning compressor seizing up. The drive belt is squealing due to the increased force required to turn the compressor, which the belt can only handle to a point. I'd be VERY careful about running it until you have it fixed (or at least looked at by a...

    Thank you Terry... again!

Hi, Bounty Hunter created a Yahoo group for Jeepz (it is e-mail based). The link is here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/jeeepz/ . Even though E-mail based groups aren't great, it at least provides us with a way to stay in touch if need be  -Nick :!:

    noise/clicking/ticking maybe from brake booster?

Ok I'm really confused now. I've never seen a pre '95 Cherokee with the battery near the firewall. I've only seen the battery in its usual place at the front passenger side corner of the engine compartment, just behind the radiator and passenger side headlamp. Likewise, the vacuum brake...

no tailights and 10 amp fuse blows

Hi, Here is what I would do to see if it is a problem with the switch or the parking/tail light(s): Look for a fairly large ( 6 to 8 ) pin block connector either at the front driver's side of the engine compartment (near the air filter) or behind the driver's side headlamp. DISCONNECT this to...

Fuel pump or O2 problem? Updated! More advice needed.

Hi, Can you hear the fuel pump running when the ignition switch is in the RUN (not start) position? If not, is there 9-12 volts present at the fuel-pump with the ignition switch in RUN? To my knowledge, a bad oyxgen sensor would NOT cause a no-start condition. -Nick :!:
