    My Cherokee's Unusual Modifications...

RE: Re: RE: Spare on the roof made for some excessive roll Hi, I don't know the exact amount at this point as I really am scared to add up the receipts :P Originally, it was going to cost around $7,000 to convert. In all honesty, I think I'm a bit over $9,500. But here's the thing to keep in...

    My Cherokee's Unusual Modifications...

RE: Newest, Youngest Jeeper, Its a Girl!! Hi Gadget, No. They really are neither automotive nor marine grade, they are true flooded deep cycle batteries (which are usually called golf-cart batteries as that is their primary application). A typical automotive battery cannot handle the depth of...

    My Cherokee's Unusual Modifications...

Thank You all for the kind words. I'm going to answer all of your questions across several posts, as it is hard to quote everyone in a single post. If all you want is numbers, here they are. The 9.1" Advanced DC motor I'm using can produce a bit above 100 HP max., and around a max. of...

    My Cherokee's Unusual Modifications...

RE: asking for a little Jeepz support Hi, I haven't had a chance to get it weighed yet. According to the manual, the stock curb weight was around 3,000 lbs. I added 1,260 lbs. of batteries, but lost some weight switching the internal combustion engine for the electric motor, which is much...

    My Cherokee's Unusual Modifications...

Hi, Regrettably, It's been awhile since I've been on Jeepz. School has been keeping me a little too busy lately. :x I know that a while back I had promised an explanation about the "modifications" I've been making to my '88 Cherokee in the past year+. So here it is: Simply put, I converted my...

    MOCK O2 sensor?

I agree. Instead of possibly wasting your money trying to emulate an 02 signal, find the REAL problem and fix it right. Remember that the computer uses signals from many sensors, not just the 02 sensor to adjust how it drives the engine. There are no guarantees that a "fake 02 sensor" reading...

Have you ever tried this product?

90Xjay, I finally had a chance to make a schematic for you. You'll notice that my drawn circuit requires an additional wire run to it from the battery. This is also the case with the circuit listed in that EBay auction above (though the seller doesn't make that clear until you read it at...

    1989 cherokee suddenly shuts off?

Hi, the best place to start is the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS), which is located on the top driver's side of the transmission bellhousing. This sensor can and will cause random stalling/ no start conditions if the computer looses its signal, or if it is sending out false information...

Have you ever tried this product?

Hi, It is basically done and I've actually been driving it off and on over the last few weeks. There are still a few small details that I want to finish working on before I can truly say it is "done" (and begin driving it more frequently), and I should have those taken care of by the end of...

Have you ever tried this product?

Those "factory" connectors are the GM Weatherpack series connectors. They come in 1-6 pin configurations, and can be purchased at NAPA. For the fan connector (which is two pin), you'd need: > (1) male and (1) female Weatherpack Shell > (2) male and (2) female 10-12 gauge weatherpack contact...

Maintenece required light just came on :(

I guess they used them longer in the cherokees. It was a pretty useless circuit  -Nick :!:

Maintenece required light just came on :(

Hi, Yes, on early YJs and XJs, the maintenece required lamp (it reads EMISS MAINT on the cherokees) IS triggered by a clock. It, however, is NOT the odometer. It is a separate electro-mechanical timer (which on cherokees is under the steering column), which runs anytime the Ignition switch is...

    headlight harnesses

Hi, I don't know exactly where they'd be, as I don't know any specifics about the post '97 model year cherokees' electrical system. Can't you trace the wires by hand if need be? Or just look at the output of the headlamp dimmer switch, that is where the two feeds originate. -Nick :!:

    headlight harnesses

Hi, What model and year? What are you trying to accomplish? Are you upgrading the wiring so you can safely use larger lamps? -Nick :!:

    good little cherokee!! problem solved!!

You are correct. It isn't helping that auto manufacturers are beginning to use extremely complex computer/electrical systems in their vehicles (such as GM's Genisys system). The complexity brings with it expensive components which are less reliable and harder to repair. :( -Nick :!:

Instrument cluster on a 99 XJ - Interesting question

Hi, I know that in the pre '96 model year cherokees the instrument cluster with the idiot lights could be replaced with an all-gauge style instrument cluster fairly easily (though some of the sensors have to be replaced). I'd assume the same could be done for the newer cherokees as well, but...

    check engine light came on.

That sounds correct. Unless you have a California emissions-regulated model, then I have no clue. -Nick :!:

4wd drives light not working, but 4wd appears to work

Yes, it is worth the work if the cause of the light not working is a loss of vacuum. To ensure the front axle disconnect is engaging properly, you need to ensure the system isn't loosing vacuum. -Nick :!:
